I think it is a horrible consequence of 'celebrity culture' that the world views women as worth only what their looks will purchase. We, as a culture, (Western culture, anyway), see beauty as being skin deep, not soul deep. It's a shame, since women are more confident, more centered, more informed, more in-tune with themselves and the world they inhabit . . . after they have a few miles on their odometer.

And . . . there isn't anything sadder, more undignified, or more pathetic than a woman who tries too desperately to hang on to the bloom of youth.

That being said, Maria Shriver should gain some weight. Gaunt is not healthy. I'll assume, that she is not sleeping or eating as she should right now, and is looking much the worse for it. But a sandwich in the pie-hole couldn't hurt. I'm just sayin'.

The whole story is a study in insanity, something a psychodynamically oriented therapist would spend years on if Mr. Wiener ever entered therapy. His wife's being pregnant only adds more interest to what he was up to (from a psychological point of view). Now one has to ask: Was his behavior exactly the same before and after her pregnancy, or did he take more risks and unconsciously try harder to get caught once his wife became pregnant? I have no idea. He was acting like a nut all along and at some point it was going to catch up with him. I think he had an unconscious need to be caught and punished. But I don't know if the timing of being caught being concurrent with his wife's pregnancy was coincidental or not.

It feels like every other day, we're hearing about some politico who can't keep it in his pants - Democrat or Republican, it doesn't even matter. I find myself rolling my eyes a little harder at anybody who's campaigned on a platform of policing the sex lives of others, but at the end of the day ... you wanna spend your free time sexting coeds or supporting a financially impoverished rentboy? Have a ball! The only think I care about is whether my elected officials are successfully representing the platforms on which I voted for them.

Weiner, god help his waxed ass, has a pretty awesome record on the issues. To quote a friend of mine:

"he's got an 100% rating from NARAL, voting against the Partial-Birth Abortion Act, an 87% rating from the ACLU, and a 94% rating from the NAACP. He is a staunch advocate for single-payer health care, he's advocated for 9/11 first responders, and he's generally been an outspoken thorn in the Republican side. He's defended gay marriage, voted to protect gay men and lesbians from job discrimination, and voted against making the PATRIOT act permanent. He's in favor of an ERA and freedom of speech--including flag-burning. He's voted against prohibiting needle exchange programs and medical marijuana use. He's garnered a rating of 8% from the Christian Coalition, which is 8% more than I'd like to see, but still in the single digits.

Is any of that really outweighed by his messed up sex life? I think not ... and I think the prevalence of these cases indicates that it's the rule, rather than the exception. Hell, I'd posit that it always has been, but modern media scrutiny and idiot-proof technology makes it sooooooo much easier for them to get caught. So ... why do we keep being distracted from the issues by this stuff?

Me, I'm a lot more worried by the fact that domestic terrorist Randall Terry is considering a presidential run ....

I 100% don't think he should resign and I wouldn't if I were in his shoes. I will admit that I am disappointed in him, only because I actually liked him for all the reasons your friend wrote. I would prefer he not be a d-bag who sends embarrassing sexts and ridiculous photos, but I still like the vast majority of his policy positions.
