Scotland is voting today whether to leave the United Kingdom and become an independent nation.

Which way do you think the vote will (not should) go?

It's too close to call. The opinion polls show a small lead to the No campaign, but they have been way out on Scottish elections in the past. The polling stations close in less than five minutes, so the count will begin shortly. We should have the result early tomorrow morning, weather permitting.

Today has been quite an odd day, not what I expected. It felt still, quiet and reflective, after a three year campaign, and a frenetic last few weeks.

DH and I are going to have a whisky and wait up for the first results - Slàinte mhor!

ETA. I just heard that one of the polling stations in my home town closed early today. Because they'd reached 100% turnout.

I agree with Jennifer W - latest polls after closing suggest a narrow victory for 'no', but it really is way too close to call.

Whatever the result tomorrow, I believe we will see some significant changes in the governance of the UK. How quickly this will happen is still too early to say but there is a great deal of uncertainty and many unanswered questions.

Enough votes counted now for BBC to predict the UK will not lose Scotland.

Scottish referendum: Voters to reject independence - BBC
Breaking news
Scotland will vote to stay in the United Kingdom after rejecting independence, the BBC has predicted.

With 26 out of the country's 32 council areas having declared, the "No" side has 54% of the vote, with the "Yes" campaign on 46%.

By 05:15 BST (06:15 GMT), the "No" campaign had more than 1,397,000 votes, with "Yes" on just over 1,176,000.

A total of 1,852,828 votes is needed for victory in the referendum.
