Do you take your ring(s) off when you...

I guess I'm one of those in the minority that my ring stays on for just about everything. I don't know if that's good or bad, but that's what I've always done. :)

Do I take my ring off when I:

1. Shower/bathe
Yes

2. Go to the gym
People go to gyms?

3. Sleep
No

4. Wash your hands
Yes

5. Put on lotion
People use lotion?

6. Cook/wash dishes
Yes

All of the above. Always. You cannot imagine the accumulated grime if you leave them on, if not cleaned daily, no ultrasonic will get rid of that.

The only exceptions I make is I will put cuticle cream on when they are on and hand sanitizer on the bottom of my palms if I am out. I also wipe them with plain tissues when out from time to time.

Still just from touching sometimes the pave spews out grease like crazy when I put the rings in the ultra after a day. Earrings going through the ears uncleaned yikes! I guess I am a clean freak but also if you let that grease, grime, dirt build up, after a while nothing will completely get rid of that.

What´s the use of a gorgeous stone if its beauty is lost due to it being unkept?

Yes. All of them.

All of the above with a couple exceptions.

1. If i'm out and about, I will not take my rings off. I don't want to risk forgetting them on a bathroom counter somewhere.

2. If I'm on vacation, I wear them non stop, unless I am in the hotel room. I don't trust those little wall safes (they have a reset code people). :eek2: That means my poor babies have to survive swimming, sun screen application, sand, and more. That's one dirty ring at the end of my trip. :confused2:

Yes, this is exactly what I do.
Taking your ring off in a public restroom is always a bad idea. Many years ago, when I was young and dumb, I did just that. When I remembered where I left two really nice rings, they were long gone!

If out and have to go to a restroom I WILL take my Octavia off and put it down while I wash my hands.

I'm old and my short-term memory has gone to hell so ...
I will say, with my voice, out loud, "Don't forget your ring, Kenny. Don't forget your ring."

So far so good ... but hopefully I'll get even older but will not donate my Octavia back to the universe. :cry2:

1,2,3 and sometimes 4 and 5

1. Shower/bathe NO
2. Go to the gym DEPENDS - No if BarMethod. Yes if weights. Maybe if running.
3. Sleep - NO
4. Wash your hands - NO
5. Put on lotion - RARELY USE LOTION, BUT ALWAYS YES IF I DO.
6. Cook/wash dishes - YES

I take my rings off only if I am doing heavy yard work. When I travel or cruise, I take only what I can wear.

Thirding this. My mom lost two nice stackers this way and would tell us 1000 x over: NEVER take them off if not home!

ETA: obviously those were thin antique pt ruby and sapphire bands with square stones (suspecting french or suisse cut... ) I've been trying to hunt down a replacement for her for AGES now, to no avail...

I think with valuable jewelry one really has to concentrate or better put the ring in a ring box in your purse you carry around when you wash hands in public. I feel naked without my rings so I would normally remember. Though it is not a real tragedy if you leave them on a few times while out. It certainly would be safer as someone could hit you on the head and rob you too. It is also true that something could happen that may distract you and then make you forget. But it bothers me to wash hands with like four rings on, I try to just sanitizer as much as possible or put them away in my purse.

I am even more paranoid about a chain breaking or not closed right when wearing a high value pendant (has happened and I was at work fortunately), or losing a drop earring without a silicone backing or a stone falling out. I have had like three instances of melee falling out over the years and all three times I found them (was lucky I guess since they were fancy color and not so easy to source the exact same size and color) One more worry for me now is getting sick and passing out and getting robbed, once it almost happened to me on a trip and I felt the sickest thinking that I had my best jewelry on.

As much as I am always concentrating also because I often carry around extra jewelry and lose stones, one time I left my jewelry in a hotel room while going down for breakfast. I freaked out when I remembered, like in five minutes and ran back.

Great insurance, that is key for these instances, you just never know what can happen.

OMG haha I used to do this very same thing. Repeated to myself as I was washing and drying my hands always with my eyes on my ring(s)-Don't forget your ring, Don't forget your ring LOL exactly the same way. But I stopped taking my ring(s) off in public restrooms because I just started getting too forgetful about other things and I just thought OK I don't trust myself anymore with taking the rings off in a public restroom. Though I sometimes still do I generally do not anymore. But I won't apply lotion until I am in the car or somewhere safe and private where I won't forget my rings.

You're so kind, missy! Thanks!
I'll take you up on this offer when I have recovered from my cushion project.
I think my mom would be overjoyed.

Count me in! There is a large indoor/outdoor antique market near me that will start next month. Several nice antique jewelry dealers! Start a new thread when you’re ready... I’m sure there will be others who enjoy the thrill of the hunt. :appl:

I have never taken my rings off in a public restroom! I can’t believe so many people do. I have a stack of two anniversary bands and my ering, maybe I would do it if I just had one? I take them off for everything above, but if I’m just out on a run I will wear my rings. When I go to the gym it’s to use the pool—I keep my rings in the glove compartment of the car.

Lotion during winter, lol—you should see me apply it to my knuckles while I have the rings on!! I could start a YouTube channel just about this particular process.

I NEVER remove my rings except if I’m using chemicals or cleaning them in ultrasonic etc. or switching to another set.

I wanted to add that I have one of these at the kitchen sink (actually, tucked in the cabinet nearby) and at my master bath sink. I need to get another one for the laundry room, as that is the place that I think is most at risk for knocking the rings around when changing loads!

I also have two little jars of cleaning solution in the kitchen sink cabinet and in the master bath. These are tips I learned a few years ago on PS. ;-)

Yes to everything except No. 4. My rings stay on when I wash my hands. I also take them off for work (I have a very physical job & only wear my wedding band which is plain white gold, wearing all the others isn’t practical).

My ring holder isn't too elegant.

Ditto...I rarely take my rings off...ever....I just wear gloves, EVERYWHERE....

1. Shower/bathe
2. Go to the gym
3. Sleep
4. Wash your hands
5. Put on lotion
6. Cook/wash dishes

1. Sometimes I’ll wear my channel set band in the shower if my finger is so swollen I can’t get it off. Lol!
2. Sometimes I’ll wear my channel set band to the gym but I only use the treadmill. If I were lifting weights I wouldn’t wear it at all.
3. Sometimes I’ll wear my channel set band to bed.
4. Yes if I’m at home
5. Always
6. Always

I’m incredibly sentimental about my wedding band. I went six years without being able to wear it because I was told it couldn’t be resized. So I wear it most often.

As a jeweler I am always telling my clients NEVER to take off their rings when they are using a public restroom. I have replaced several for clients who did.

Still, I dislike washing my hands with my ring on, so I stick it in my pocket. Absolutely scary how many times I have found it there.

If you take it off, please put it in a pocket do NOT set it next to the sink, it is a guarantee that eventually you WILL forget.

Wink

I see that I also am in the minority. The only way I don’t lose them is if I wear them. Yup, I will clean them and then wear them to sleep. :). I like them ON.

1. Shower/bathe YES
2. Go to the gym YES
3. Sleep - YES
4. Wash your hands - NO {When washing, I don't remove my rings. I scrub my hands and rings thoroughly. I dry my hands, then just slide my rings up a bit to make sure I dry beneath them. Then, I slide the rings up again to dry the actual ring. I'm quite deliberate about this to avoid losing them. If I put them down, in a pocket or anywhere else, I'd be afraid of loss or falling down a drain.}
5. Put on lotion - YES {if I'm at my desk at work, I'll slip my rings off and apply lotion, but I keep them right in front of me as otherwise I'll space out.}
6. Cook/wash dishes - YES

At home, I take off all but my bands. My non-band rings are tucked into a nice box either upstairs or down inside a cabinet to avoid having it visible through a window (why tempt fate?). I often don't wear my larger rings...sticking to my bands on the weekends too. I once had my ring on while quilting and was spray basting a bunch of squares (think spray glue). After about 30 minutes, I realized my ring had been on and was now covered in the stuff from minor overspray. Fortunately the ring was platinum and diamonds, so I could dunk it into mineral spirits and scrub off the gummy yuck. If that has been one of my more fragile stones, that could have been a nightmare. Lesson learned.

I leave my wedding band on for everything except showering and sleeping. I basically only wear my engagement ring socially these days.

Lol, I’m the odd one out. I’ll leave all my jewelry on, except my bracelet and watch I’ll take that off before bedtime. The only time I will take my rings off is to clean them and if I’m working in the garden.

HA! This is me exactly!

1. Shower/bathe yes
2. Go to the gym na
3. Sleep yes
4. Wash your hands no
5. Put on lotion yes
6. Cook/wash dishes
yes

I basically put my rings on last thing before I leave the house and take them off first thing when I get home. I never take them off when I am not home.

Yes to all the answers except washing your hands. What is the benefit of taking it off during that time? I think the hot water and soap could only help clean it and I think I would be worried about knocking it off and having it go down the drain!
