Do you know when I can find a antique asscher?

A true antique or antique style asscher will have an open culet, smallish table and a high crown.
Those are both modern style which have been cut since around the 1920s with some overlap with the antique style.
The first one is about as far as you can get from antique with the 75% table.
The second is modern also.

That said there are many different looks in asschers both back then and now but both of those were cut after the diamond saw which means they are most likely not antique.

Thank you (as always) for the feedback @Karl_K. I saw some (that were over 5 carats) with the open culet and I LOVED them. It was to my surprise because I usually don’t like the black fish eye in a round, but I loved the square culet in the asscher.

Soo.. where to find I’ve if these true antiques....

As a trade member I cant link vendors but someone will be along, someone is cutting "new" diamonds in the antique style and old ones are out there, just not easy to find.

Yoram cuts amazing antique style asschers (among other things).

Jogani is also great at sourcing antique step cuts.

Adam at Old World Diamonds May also be able to find one for you.

I would start there. Good luck on your search- I love antique diamonds, especially step cuts!

Thank you! I spoke with Adam. He had a beautiful one, but it was a little more emerald looking. Checked with Jogani who sent me to jewls by grace- I’m going to be on Instagram all night!

I don't understand how Yoram's stones get graded as 'Very Good' when they are cut so well!

mldt - drop Yoram a line through his Gemconcepts website or speak to DbL - you might be able to get one custom-cut or reserve one already in-progress

This is an interesting one. Found someone looking to sell a 2.86 antique asscher. Looks antique to me! Only problem is they are asking 12,500 so there has to be a huge catch. I asked for color and clarity and they said they have to find the ags certificate to see and they will send me a copy.

All are amazing! And (hold your breath) I think I finally picked out a setting.

If I went this route, I would skip antique and go for a traditional modern asscher. The ring looks clunky and bulky, but if the stone is 7mm than the band would be 7mm and I would do
Carré Cut instead of the princess.

I’ve been soo all over the place which is why I’m not yet jumping on anything!

Isn’t it? I think it’s a lovely stone but....I prefer it at LADs pricing :roll

The one @Starfacet posted is lovely too!
Yeah that price increase is kinda annoying! Pricescopers are on it!!!

These are super cool! Smaller than your 7mm goal but they are very special.

Hi all! I once again want to thank everyone for all the input I have gotten in my short time here. You really are amazing.

I went to my local jewelry store today- a new HUGE one. I was treated with such respect (I’m in my 20’s and stores usually don’t take me seriously at all). I was really impressed.

They drew design after design. Showed me anything and everything, drew on stones with sharpie to make them look like sapphires ect.

I have a design idea that would need a 6.5mm asscher.

The problem-
This is a very high end store and i felt the prices of the stones were your typical retail. I do want them to make my ring but I want to find my own stone. I’m happy to pay for the craftsmanship.

A. Do you think that is wrong? I will pay for the craftsmanship, but with my (and your) eyes, I know we can find a beautiful stone. I don’t want to upset them buy not purchasing a stone from them.

B. Any Asscher experts that can do a quick search? I know a lot about rounds, but I don’t want to mess this up!

Heres what I know I want.
6.5mm
No Flour
G or above (I am color senseative)

I don’t like a super skinny windmill
I’m not seeing too many online right now. Could it be that the holidays wiped out a lot of stones? I do want the steps to flash on and off and be as brilliant as an asscher can be. Budget is about 10k (ish) for the stone. Also, for this design, a shallow stone would be best but I don’t want to compromise beauty at all!

Do you want antique/vintage asscher or modern cut asscher?
