Hello, I have shortlisted 3 stones that I would like to appraise. The appraiser I have found that can do the job right now is Mark Yakubov
http://aginewyork.com/contactus.html

Does anyone know him or had some experiences?

Some info I have found:

http://www.idonowidont.com/news,page,1,topic_id,content_pages

http://www.diamondappraisers.net/appraiser_list.html
If you scroll down to New York you will see Mark Yakubov as "Very highly professional, well experienced staff. Reliable diamond grading service. A must for anyone purchasing in the diamond district. Very highly recommended"

Thanks a lot!

So long as the appraiser has no way to know who is supplying the stones to you and was not the recommended appraiser from the seller, then you may be able to put some trust there. If a seller says they have an "indenpendent" appraiser available, run the other way and find your own appraiser. Never tell the appraiser the name of the seller and make sure the paperwork and the diamond paper does not give the name away by accident. Give the appraiser every chance to be totaly unbiased and truly work only for you.

IDNID is a commission driven sales channel. There's nothing especially wrong with that but be careful about relying on grading or valuation advice provided by ANY seller, regardless of who they hire or contract to provide the info. Their job is to sell stuf, not to provide you unbiased information and there is an inherent conflict of interest between these two objectives that can be substantial. If you want an appraisal, choose and hire the appraiser yourself. That said, he seems to be qualified and if you're looking for an appraiser in his neighborhood he would be well worth considering unless he's already been hired by the other party in the transaction.
