Do you change your colored gems with the seasons?

Hi,

I was just wondering if any of you change what you wear with the seaons... Like wearing green gems in the springtime or yellow in the summer, maybe purple in the fall and blue in winter?

Although I haven't purchased a gem yet, I'm sure that I'd sometimes change them with the seasons.

Just curious...

Nope, because we dont have seasons here in southern california. :(

i do change my colored gems to match my clothes tho.

ForteKitty,
That's really funny that you said that because I'm being a little committment-phobic about buying my first gem because I'm like "well, if I buy that color, it won't go with my red dress" (for example). And, my SO totally laughed at me when I mentioned that... He was like, "No one will notice if your clothes match your gemstones". Maybe that's true, but it would bug me. So, I understand what you mean.

I too tend to match my gemstones with whatever I’m wearing that day.

Having said that I do tend to wear lighter / brighter clothes in summer and darker clothes in winter, so yes I suppose you could say I change my gems with the seasons. Its more a clothing thing than gem thing though.

Absolutely. Color is an important part of my life and how I feel.

I despise, despise, despise summer and hot weather (it makes me feel lifeless and sick) (severe fibromyalgia sufferer) so I love to wear blues, aquas, mints, icy diamonds . . . in the summer to "cool things off". Never ever red or any hot colors.

Fall I celebrate with oranges, reds and yellow stones.

Winter I love so celebrate with reds, oranges, yellows (fire in the fireplace colors) or aquas and blues (ice colors).

Spring is o.k., the spring flowers are pretty. Lavender, pink, yellow stones.

Peridot for late fall and early spring.

So yes . . .

Great website - "Color Matters", btw.

Absolutely, I change my gemstones with the seasons. During the fall and winter I wear more browns and darker colors, and my red garnets look stunning with them. Summer tends to be more aquas and light greens and other lighter gemstone colors.

However, I find my rubies and sapphires work well in all seasons.

Not really. Living in the UK (especially for the last couple of years) we haven't really had a summer to speak of, so none of my colourful summery type gems would be worn if I co-ordinated with the seasons.

However, I do tend to co-ordinate with what I wear. So I guess that my brighter gems get more of an outing in the warmer, sunnier months but if I wear something bright in the winter then I'll co-ordinate to match.

Plus one:) no seasons in Singapore too! I change my color stone to match my outfits and occasion. I will wear the smaller stones with my more casual outfitS and the larger pieces for more formal outings.

I also match my jewelry to my clothes, but I don't wear seasonal colors except for holidays. I'm perfectly comfortable wearing the same colors year round.

I wear whatever I want, whenever I want. I tend to want to wear things that match my clothes, but since I LURVE blue, I'll wear it with anything.

From what I understand, Catmom wears her jewels (any and all of them!) with jeans. Love that!

LD: That is too funny to find out you live in the UK! I had imagined, after your beautiful photos of all your recently relocated gem babies now secure in their new homes, that you lived some place warm and exotic, lol! with the pool in the background, your beautiful tan hands, and the gorgeous brightly colored flowers, I was imagining Florida or Hawaii...and all your babies are stunning, especially the paraiba in its new white gold setting.

I match my rings to my clothes, but occasionally, if I know I have a particularly rough day of meetings, presentations, negotiations (in other words, days when I have to be "on"), I will wear one of my most special, give-me-strength rings. I have one paraiba that is kind of like my good luck ring, and one spinel halo ring that is my bling "I'm confident, don't-mess-with-me" ring.

I change colors according to mood

No, I always wear my padparadscha's. I know, I am boring. ha ha. :cheeky:

No, I wear the same things all year round...totally boring! I have so many pretty gemmies sitting here just waiting to be set....what's up with that? :errrr:

Slight threadjack - apologies to Gempassion!

Minous - we have a Villa in the Mediterranean, hence the tan, stunning flowers, clear blue skys and swimming pool! Trust me, it's a world away from rainy old Britain and a great place to escape to! I love the UK with all my heart but crikey the weather is just awful and the sky is most definitely NOT Paraiba coloured!

Right now I don't have enough gems to change with the seasons. And don't imagine I will for quite some time. But if/when I do, I will probably just wear my favorite at the time and occasionally coordinate with my outfits (I'm not a huge "outfit" person - generally dress very casual).

Thanks everyone for your informative responses,

I guess most of us like colored gemstones because they can match our moods or outfits.

I don't mind threadjacks, they're usually fairly minor and help me learn more about the people on this forum.

Sonomacounty: Sorry to hear about the fibromyalgia (I had an acute case of myalgia last year when I had the flu, so I (only minimally) understand what that lack of energy feels like). Took me about 6 months to get my energy back. It was an odd flu. I am happy to hear that colored gems offer some cooling-effect in the summer. I will definitely check out color matters.

Flygirl: I'm buying a sapphire as my first gem so I'm glad to know that it may go with everything!

Like lavatea, it will take me a while to build a collection to change with my moods or seasons...

Thanks again!

I don't have enough jewelery to say that I change it with the seasons but I definitely match the few ones I do with what I'm wearing.

I normally try to match what I'm wearing..but sometimes not. I do change clothing colors with seasons...so indirectly yes!

No, there's no rhyme or reason why I wear some rings. I mix and match colors, stones and metal, and I just wear what I want to enjoy looking at. I wear them for my visual entertainment than for others. I know I look goofy, but I have to say that for me, bling is awfully fun to stare at!! Why do you think I love Pricescope so much, lots of eye candy!!!

I have a blue sapphire and diamond cross set in platinum that was my everyday pendant for many years. I never felt that it clashed with any of my clothing. I'm adding a photo for a visual. The sapphire pair is from wildfishgems and I recently had them set into earring drops in palladium.
Hope your sapphire is a pretty one!

LD A villa on the mediterranean?!! That's much better than the "exotic" places I suggested!

Sapphire was the first stone I bought as well (it also happens to be my birthstone so maybe that's why I've always loved it), and I think I can wear it with almost anythng. Gem: my thoughts for you - though you didn't ask for them - take your time, think about exactly what you want and try not to compromise. Then keep in mind that its your first but probably not your last.

Good luck,

-Minou

Oh, and Flygirl, that cross is very, very nice. I love the simple elegance and the sapphires are such a deep blue.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Flygirl,
That is a pretty cross!

Thank you for the compliments, minousbijoux and Gempassion. Gempassion, I know you have been doing your homework for a while now. What are your current thoughts for your first sapphire?

I have no taste; I wear whatever I please all year round.

Good one Chrono (but I think that most pricescopers swoon over your gems, which is evidence of exquisite taste)!

Flygirl: I actually purchased the pink winza sapphire from Gemrite just yestday. IndyLady suggested it back during one of my original posts in April. I originally didn't want a round gem, but they've grown on me.

I will start a new thread once I receive it. It could take a while since I live in Australia. I actually decided on pink sapphire to brighten up the gray days here in Victoria, Australia.

I will keep everyone posted!

Hmmmm....

that's a nice winza

Thanks VapidLapid, I think that you had suggested that Winza to me as well.

I've been admiring that Gemrite Winza pink as well. Glad to hear it is going to a good home, and looking forward to seeing your pictures. :wavey:
