do pink and orange go together?

the more i think about it the more i realize i prefer the pink/orange combo over any of the others....sorry, TL, i know you love your ring but its just not something that appeals to me despite being nice stones.

in fact, i've got a bunch of pinks and some oranges around that might end up in a version of the ring i mentioned above.....

i will say though that extremely bright pinks with extremely bright greens of very small sizes would work for me as well...and i do have a bunch of very small and extremely bright greens as well.....the larger sizes of green/pink combo just don't work for me but i'm glad they work for TL and others.

i think the pink/orange combo for a california gal no matter location would work.....and i may be a convert!

Color combinations are totally a matter of personal taste! If you love the combo, I honestly don't think it matters a bit what anyone else thinks, although I think you've gotten plenty of support on this thread. If this were the only colored stone ring you are ever going to own, something "safer" would make sense, but that would be the only reason to hesitate, IMO. I say go for it, and have some fun.
 
Normally I dislike multi-coloured rings but I really do like your combo. Its very very very appealing and summery. As you live in California (how jealous am I?) you should go for it. Don't pick a colour combo that others like because it won't appeal to you as much. You've got a large majority saying go for the pink/orange combo (sorry TL) so pull the trigger!

As for design, why don't you email Sally at Heartofwater and ask her for some inspiration? She's great at interpreting ideas and vision and bringing things to life.
 
I like the pink and orange combo a lot, but I'd add a few small, very white diamonds to the design to make the colors pop even more. Yummy!

TL, I really value your opinion and appreciate all the help you provide. But I just don't like green. I don't have any green jewelry or clothing and my pastel minty garnet is the closest I dared to get to green (and the reason it's so pastel is so it doesn't look very green). Sorry...

Chrono, thank you suggesting amethyst. Orange and purple is actually one of my favorite color combinations and that was my first guess (it would have been a lot cheaper too). But amethyst looks too different, it's darker, does not really sparkle and does not glow. So i thought it looked a bit weird. I also tried purplish rhodolites, but they were too dark too. One option I considered was a halo with purple sapphires, i think that would have looked great. But I wanted something more delicate (no halo this time). Anyways, here are some photos with amethyst and rhodolites to show off orange and purple (since we all love pictures)...

I still need to get a few more spinels for this, most importantly something larger for a pendant (probably a pear shape is good). Any suggestions are welcome.

As for the design, I guess yellow gold it is! I wanted something really simple and delicate, I think the color combination is screaming enough, not to get any more attention with a complicated design. I also find that I am wearing delicate jewelry much more often than something too blingy. Any suggestions on who can make a simple delicate setting on a budget? :)

I think the tone is off on the combinations you showed above with the amethyst and the rhodolites, and that's why they're not very attractive next to each other. Okay, everyone likes the pink/orange combination except for me, so go with those. I've obviously been outvoted. ;)) As others have said, color preference is a personal thing, and if that's the combination you like, you should go with them. :))
 
To be honest, I am not a huge fan of pink and orange together, though I think those stones look good together in terms of tone and glow. It's just not my thing. I generally prefer solitaires anyway, to feature just one stone (or with colorless accents), so I'm a bit of an outlier in that sense.

I'm sure tons of people on here will find my taste in jewelry not similar to theirs, and I won't let that bother me because if I like it, that's what counts! If you like your orange and pink stones together, you should rock them and smile when you look at them!

I definitely do agree that yellow gold would be best for the setting, though.
 
The particular purple stones you have put next to the spessartite aren't the right fit; the amethyst is too dark (too much contrast) and the rhodolites have the "wrong" hue.

So, it's a definite go for the pink and orange?

I had seen this ring a while back - in spessartite and deep pink tourmaline - and it really 'pops' in the yellow gold.

I think your choice of orange and pink stones will look stunning together :))

Chrono, I think I am going to go for it, but feel that it's missing something and I can't put my finger on it... What is it missing?


The RWise ring is bezeled. I have not considered bezeling before because both stones are glowy and I didn't want to mess with that. Should I definitely stick to prongs or should I think about a bezel setting?

My concern is, what am I going to do for earring dangles and pendant? It would be nearly impossible to match the design...

I LOVE that setting, and was seriously considering it for a long time, but it was never the right measurements for me, and that ebay seller charges so much for custom work. Usually, this is what happens. . . If you don't customize, you can get around $100 off on the BIN price :naughty: ,however, if you customize, he will charge $50 more than the BIN price, at least! :blackeye: Therefore, I didn't bother, but if I had three stones to fit that setting, I would go with it in a heartbeat. I love it. I personaly would not bezel because it's really difficult to find people that can bezel stones properly without covering too much of the stone, and/or looking uneven. I like nice sharp and even bezels, as in the Richard Wise ring, which is well crafted.
 
I think halo settings for the pendent and earrings would match would complement the ring setting. Actually, any simple design in yellow gold and white diamonds that does not compete with the design on the ring would look very nice. I don't think you parure has to be matchy-matchy to look nice.

TL, unfortunately I would have to customize it, I hope it's not too expensive. I recently got another setting customized for an asscher and I thought the price was fairly reasonable. I am waiting for their holidays to be over, then I'll ask.

My concern with customizing this setting is that my stones are significantly smaller and I afraid it will look disproportionate when customized...

Good point, pregcurious, I don't need to be all matchy-matchy. And I learned a new word! I had to google to see what "parure" means :)
 
Late to the party here, but I have a spessartite set in 18 k yellow gold with hot pink sapphires on the shank. I really like the combination. Since I have quite a few neutral outfits, the ring goes well with them. And I don't feel I am limited to just wearing it in the summer.

OP - I just wanted to add my two cents, as color is my life! I love these stones together... it reminds me of a tropical sunset! I think because a ring is such a small part of one's look, that you can get away with almost anything. And I think this combo is lots of fun! Now, if it were the color of your entire outfit, that may be a different story! Although, I think I just saw something on People where they were showing a trend amongst celebrities of colorblocking bright pink and orange. Anyway, personally I love the pairing!

This ring is out of this world gorgeous, btw. Like, sinfully stunning and right up my alley. If you're ever looking to hock that baby, TL! :bigsmile:
