Do dimensions seem off for 3.5ct round?

Hi everyone! We are shopping for a 3.5ct round diamond for my engagement ring and I wanted to run a couple by you all. My jeweler picked these out for us but the dimensions are throwing me off, it seems a bit small/average for the carat size but I’m new to this world so I may be off! Does one of these look better than the other? Or keep looking? Any help would be appreciated.

3.5ct (scored 1 on HCA)
Ideal/excellent hearts & arrows
9.61 - 9.67 X 5.99 MM
58% face
62.1 depth
Crown angle 36
Pavilion angle 40.5

3.46ct (scored 1.4 on HCA)
Ideal/excellent hearts & arrows
9.66 - 9.68 x 5.99 mm
57% face
61.9 depth
Crown angle 35
Pavilion angle 40.8

I also heard that 0-1 on the HCA could mean a more shallow diamond which would mean it would be darker when looking at it up close, but I know it’s not a perfect science.
Thank you!!

They dont seem that off to me. Their depths are fine (good)...what are the girdles? Can you post the reports on them?

They don’t look off to me either and the depth is fine. What about them seem off to you?

Well I had been looking at diamonds on my own that were between 3.3ct-3.4ct which had dimensions larger than these. Also when plugging into the HCA, these diamonds came back “average” for carat size where as those diamonds (3.3-3.4ct) came back as “big”. When I do a google search it says a 3.5ct is usually 9.87x9.87. So these seem quite a big smaller than that.

It really depends on the cut or rather, how well cut the diamond turns out to be. Big is not always a good thing if the diamond is too shallow. The girdles on those two diamonds are somewhat thick and that affects diameter as well. Here is a super ideal cut diamond in a 3.4 size so you can see the diameter dimension:

Thank you for your insight!! I had been doing a lot of research but I just don’t have the experience! Are girdles being too thick a concern would you keep looking? These were just the first 2 she showed me and asked for my opinion.

You can lose face up diameter with too much weight hidden in the girdle. Does your jeweler provide any images such as idealscope or ASET? I would also be looking at GIA certified stones.

She does not have these in hand yet, just sent me the reports to get my thoughts. I believe she has to wait until she gets them for Idealscope or ASET right? The 3.46 is GIA, the 3.50 is IGI, should I stay clear of IGI?

Are these lab-grown or natural diamonds? I would steer clear of IGI if they are natural diamonds, but for lab-grown, IGI is quite common.

These are both LGD... it's already been requested that the thread be moved to the proper subforum. :)

I was able to find both of them.
The 3.46 (top images) is safer, but the 3.50 (bottom images, tilted in the video) should look great as well but I'd definitely want to see more videos and ASET because of the PA/CA/TW combo and to rule out things like over-obstruction and paddling.
Girdle thicknesses are not an issue.
No issues with the material quality or blue nuance for either of these. :)

yes, LGD! Sorry this is my first post, not sure where everything is! lol
I am not familiar with PA/CA/TW over obstruction/paddling.

Nice sleuthing, DejaWiz!

kel12345, I much prefer the 3.46. The acronyms indicate pavilion angle, crown angle, and table width. The 3.50's proportions are a bit riskier so I would want to see a light return image to make sure there's no leakage.

Would you ask for more options or is the 3.46 that good? Budget is not really an issue I just want to make sure it’s a good Diamond. Thank you so much! I really appreciate the help!!

I truly think that the 3.46 is a winner of a diamond, so if the price and terms are within your means of acceptability, then your search is over...and it will definitely grab eyes everywhere that you wear it.

Thanks so much! I really appreciate your knowledge! The dimensions seem right for that carat size?

You're very welcome - They are spot-on beautiful proportions and the optics look dynamite in the video.
