I’m a new member here. I need your advices on my e-ring. We’re first time buyer. Bf and I are looking at diamonds together and we found a nice little family Retail store that sells at wholesale price. The salespeople have been helpful and patient with us for about 1.5 months perusing various diamonds. I finally found one I really love: it is a VS2 radiant cut 1.87 I color that sparkles like the 4th of July fireworks and it makes my heart sing to look at it. But being type A, I took closer look under both loupe and microscope and discovered a cluster of pinpoints right under the table that appear like a silvery blob. At first glance from the top it is perfectly eye-clean, with the loupe viewing at upside down and right side up the cluster looks like brown flakes, and microscope shows the cluster to be silvery. My heart now sank because once I saw the inclusions I could spot it with unaided eyes if I turn the diamond upside down. Goodbye eye-clean. I feel like the listing price of $11k is too much for a SI1 looking diamond with a GIA grade of VS2. Look at the certificate would you think that is a VS2? That’s the only thing bothering me. I’m not bothered by the inclusions of the stone cuz it’s gorgeous I would buy it on the spot, but the sales tactic they’re using are making me trusting them less. We’ve gone to 5 stores in 3 months and this one are the nicest and frankly we’re tired of looking.

Here’s the kicker: I typed the GIA report number in Google and out came a link from Adiamor of the exact same rock with same certificate number, same dimensions, same inclusion plot listed at $500 cheaper than What the store is quoting me. With this knowledge in mind (and I know the store of course wants to profit somewhat and I’m okay with it because they’ve been so nice to me) I asked the salesman for only 3-4% discount (he’s the owner of the store) and he gave me the old line of “I need to ask my wholesale boss cuz we need to make a living too I think the best I can ask for is 2% for you”…. I almost bought into that line if it wasn’t for an employee carelessly showed me the info sheet of an existing couple with the budget of 50% less than what my bf and I are offering. So they’re profiting just fine. Now I’m wondering if I should keep on looking for another VS2 (which is a caveat cuz we plan on being engaged on July 4th for sentimental reasons) or settle with this one rock knowing what I know. My bf has no opinion he says it’s entirely up to me and I can’t decide. I’m this close to calling the store out on it and show them the Adiamor link but I like keeping things peaceful and courteous. I’d appreciate your inputs. Thank you.

I don't know much about anything else you asked but I will say, playing the part of the innocent consumer will get you much farther than calling them out. Just say that you heard from a "Friend" about looking up diamond reports online and that you found it for cheaper and will they match it? :Up_to_something: Be sure to take a printout with the matching GIA # and the price from Adiamor :)

@debeersordesoda lol ur advice! it's quite brilliant thank you I'll do that  :D

Diamond clarity is graded face up and whether or not a diamond is "eye clean" is determined by looking at the stone face up from 6-12 inches away. That you can see the inclusions with the diamond upside down does not mean it's not eye clean. If you cannot see the inclusions from the top, then it is eye clean.

Yes, based on the inclusion plot, that definitely could qualify as a VS2 stone.

Unfortunately the store you bought it from is not required to sell their diamonds at the same price as other vendors. They can sell it for how ever much they want. It would behoove them to match Adiamor's price if they want your business, but that is completely up to them. I suggest kindly asking them if they would price match another vendor's price on the same stone. If they won't you can return it and buy it from Adiamor. Brick and mortar stores tend to have a larger mark up compared to online vendors.
