I hadn't seen that article but I did know that DiCaprio has invested in Diamond Foundry.

People have been saying that lab diamonds will conquer the world for decades now. There are a lot of reasons why it hasn't happened, but I think it comes down to the belief that you should have a "real" diamond for an engagement. People who don't see why they should spend all that money are happy with a simulant, which in practice is pretty hard to tell from the real thing.

Besides the memorial diamonds which are probably not made from ashes after all, the main market for lab diamonds are people who object to the environmental and political facts of the diamond mining business. So maybe having DiCaprio's name on their company will make a difference in their sales. But maybe not.
