Hey everyone,

I am a newbie, and I started reading your messages last week. My husband and I just bought a diamond and it is now being set into my existing e-ring. The sales lady let me take it into natural light and I loved it! It also looked more sparkly and a brighter white than some other diamonds that I held next to it. But now that I am on this board I am worried about the depth %. It looked so sparkly to me, and when I had the choice between this one and one with a wider face I thought this one looked great... Can you tell me what you think of this. I am driving myself crazy!! It's a Leo Diamond, so I am hoping the extra facets will make the cut okay? Thanks in advance!!!

Leo Diamond
Round cut
0.98 ct
6.14mm - 6.21mm x 3.95mm
near colorless (H)
SI2 - inclusion is near the girdle, hard to find even under 10x
Polish/Symmetry Good/Good
White Light, Color Light, Scintillation- all Very High
Price... retail $6499, talked down to $5270

Here is my Gem Ex Report with the Light Return

Here is a photo of my new Leo diamond

If I''m not mistaken, an ideal cut 1 carat diamond should face up about 6.4 mm...so you are losing quite a bit of spread by having a deep stone. I''d probably return it and get a recommendation here for a diamond...but it''s up to you. If you love it, enjoy it and don''t worry about what else is out there!

Welcome Amy!

VS lover is right, this diamond is facing up considerably small for its weight...I don''t know if this is a feature of the Leo diamond if it is typically bottom heavy, but this almost 1 carat diamond won''t look like it unfortunately....Have you considered a more traditionally cut round brilliant?

Doing a search on here for Leo''s, I found this thread, and the diamond is definitely deeper than it should be.

The stone in this one is even worse.

So maybe they tend to cut them deep? I would also suggest considering a regular round. If your heart is set on a Leo though, keep the depth at 60-62.2ish.

I almost bought this one (F/SI2/1.06ct), $5500ish w/ a wire payment: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/3902/

You can do better per the standards you''ll see on Pricescope, BUT, if you love what you bought, don''t sweat it.

I tried on a 1ct. Leo diamond at a Jared once. I kept insisting that it didn''t look like a full carat, maybe more like three quarters. I guess I had bugged the sales person enough, she got out the cert to show me it was a carat, then said "Oh, you know what? The measurements are the same as a three-quarter carat." A 3/4 size is beautiful, but I know if I am PAYING for a carat, I want it to LOOK like a carat.

That said, if you really love it, keep it. But if you have doubts and you''re still in the return period, you can find a just as sparkly, but bigger looking diamond.

I''ve been looking at Leo diamonds with a friend of mine. She loves them and they are pretty stones. However, I have not seen one yet that is not deep. At .98, it is also a light carat although not enough to make a huge difference. The depth always makes them face up smaller than an ideal cut. However, if you know that and are still loving the stone, go for it. With the additional pavillion facets, they have lots of pinfire as opposed to a chunkier fire from an ideal cut. Two different looks - just depends on what you prefer! For the same color and clarity, you can usually find ideal cut stones from internet vendors cheaper than the Leos but sounds like you negotiated a pretty fair price. Pretty impressive too - the B&M stores usually stick to their guns as far as price but they also have payment plans which is a big plus for some folks.

Hi everyone. Thanks so much for the advice! It''s been hard not having the diamond right here to look at it (it is being set into my ring) so I have to go on what I remember. I know loved it when I saw it, and was not concerned until I started reading more about them on here. I feel like I know more now, so I''ll be a great help to my friends! I know I could get a bigger ideal cut, but I like the way Leos sparkle, so I''m gonna go with my first instinct

Thank you to MissGotRocks too, that makes me feel better that you saw lots of Leos cut deep, maybe thats just how they do it. I do like the skinny sparkles it makes... so after all this I am going to stick with what we got. I feel so much better just having heard that lots of them are like that!! Thanks again everyone! You''re right... I do love it and thats what matters!

If you love it that''s all that matters. Enjoy it and stop worrying about the numbers. Please post handshots when you get it.

You are welcome. The ticket is loving what you choose - sounds like you''re in good shape! I know your stone will be very sparkly and pretty!

Can''t wait to see your pictures - please come back and show us your ring when it is finished!

You''ve already got good advice but I just wanted to agree with many - if you love it keep it.

I happened to poke my head into the store to see if my ring was ready. It was not. But while I was there I saw another Leo that had just come in. It was the same carat weight and price of the one I got, but it had a better color grade AND a larger face up size. I asked if I could exchange it for the one I got. They weer sooo acoomodating and stopped work on the one I got before and are going to set this one instead!! yay!!!

The new specs are:
0.98ct
Color- G
SI2
size 6.24mm - 6.26mm x 3.99mm
polish/symmetry good/good
