One more question this morning -

My boyfriend and I orignally thought that having diamonds around the entire engagement and wedding band would be beautiful! Then we talked to a custom jeweler and they said that was a bad idea - due to the "wear" on the bottom of the ring, the diamonds would fall out more and just not be good for the ring in general. Any insight on this??

AST,

there is always a potential for stones to pop out or be damaged. A well made ring should not have stones just falling out though unless they''ve taken a good whack. Are you looking at a shared prong eternity or pave style? If you are truly worried about security and you know you are hard on rings you can always have something made like Mara''s rings that have 4 prongs holding each stone in.

That is a beautiful ring! I think that we are leaning more towards a pave-style!

The skin of the adjacent fingers will be rubbing on them all day.

I think it would be impossible to keep them clean enough for them to not bug you.

I'd just put that extra money into a nicer stone.

there are tons of threads about pave. you can read a good one here.

albicocca said this in another thread and it''s a great summery IMO.

I do want to mention something that is a bit of popular opinion in the PS community...many jewelers refuse to go under 2mm in band width with pave because they say they cannot make it strong enough to keep from breaking/having stones pop out - and I think you should believe them!! If you are going to go with a very narrow band, I would highly recommend sticking with a Vera Wang or Harry Winston (or Michael B, Daniel K, Ritani, Leon Mege...there are a few others) - namely, sticking with a company which specializes in narrow micropave bands, has made ten million of them and KNOWS how to do it without jeopardizing the integrity of the band. Going custom has many benefits, but if your jeweler is not extremely well versed in making very narrow micropave bands, there is a pretty good chance that it won''t stand the test of time. So I would suggest either looking for a pre-made design by a designer known for their micropave, or keep looking until you find a custom jeweler who is VERY confident that they can make such a narrow band sturdy enough for regular wear.

ast, diamond eternity bands can and are made to be worn without trouble. if i were to have an eternity band though, i would make it 4prong like mara''s for extra security.

I also want to add that your lifesyle should play a factor in your decision. if you are hard on rings, want to wear them 24/7 and do everything in them, pave may not be a good choice for you. I do know we have a couple of Ritani wearers that do wear them all the time and haven''t had any problems. Ritani and a couple of other designers set their stones that almost looks like channel set with beads holding the stones in which I think makes them stronger.

I have a pave band on my rings 3/4 way around. It took a few days to get used to but now I hardly feel the ringat all. I don''t have a pic on this PC of my actual ring but here it is from the James Allen website- you can see what Mrs. Salvo was saying about the stones looking almost channel -set. I think the way the band is raised slightly helps to protect the diamonds. I work out in mine but I do take the ring off to clean or cook.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
