I have a 1.02 princess cut h g si1 diamond in a halo setting when I go in direct sunlight or low lighting it turns almost black. It also does this when the flash hits it in pictures.....just my center stone turns black. Is this normal? It drives me crazy......exp in photos.

A diamond in the sun, or under flash gives off many facets that vary from very dark to very bright.
The brightness range exceeds what the human retina and any camera can capture.

It's not the diamond.
It is the light pick-up device.

The iris in the human eye and the aperture in the camera's lens closes down to a small hole because the sun or flash makes the bright parts of the diamond TOO bright.

The eye, and the camera attempt to block the excessive brightness.
This pushes the less-bright parts of the diamond down into dark shadow.

Science!

You will find that when most of us take pictures of our rings, we never use a flash.

I guess it concerns me cause my diamonds in my setting don't do this....its just my center stone.

I would bet that you can make any of them do it at the right angle.

Out of curiosity, may I ask how big the diamonds in the setting are?

They are small little round diamonds.imag2184_1.jpg

here's another old thread that discusses this:

Melee stones generally look like little bits of bright white. You might try reading through this thread to and try some of the info in there on your ring. Flash is NOT a good way to photograph a diamond. Like being in bright sun, the flash makes it one light source hitting your stone. As Kenny said, your eyes can't process it and I think the effect is called cancellation, but can't remember for sure. Try under a shady tree so the light is broken up in to many small pinpoints hitting your stone.

Quoting the photography expert re: your melee question:

Melee diamonds are many, many times smaller than your center! So even though your pupil has constricted, it can still see the smaller reflections of the melee.
