If you''ve read my previous post you know I''m leaning toward 1.5 TCW studs. We gals get a little neurotic about these diamonds; guess b/c they''re a girl''s best friend!

Anyway, what are thoughts on prongs vs bezel settings? I know that with a well cut diamond there should be no problem with light return in bezel.

Is three prong the way to go? I hate the high-basket that looks like it''s toppling over. What kind of prong setting would avoid that look?

Is the bezel setting a more modern look?

Hi! I have a pair of bezel set studs, and I really wish that they were prong set instead, because it''s rather difficult to get them completely clean. I don''t know if it''s something unique to my bezel set, but I can''t get behind the diamond to really clean out all the grime. Hope this helps.

MARTINI ALL THE WAY!!!

... a low basket? They need to be a hair deeper than the diamonds are deep.

I found some with the peg (the thing that goes through the lobe, how are they called?) connected to a side of the basket, not the middle. I suppose that was meant to keep fancy shaped earrings from spinning, but also allow very low settings. I don't have pictures, but Ritani's 'Endless Love' earrings are done this way - with off-center pegs.

How about the 'by the yard' bezels. Have you tried some on?

And lastly: if you do not do bezel earrings, will you also change the setting of the pendant to match ? Just curious. The perspective of seeing your set put together sounds very exciting even for a by-stander

Prongs - 3 or 4, thay are so classic and will never go out of style.

i have to say three prong martini. i really wanted bezel set studs about 5 years ago when my then-bf (now hubby) were dating, and he bought me earrings that were prong set. he felt they were more classic. but i really wanted bezel because it was popular at the time. well ff 5 years and i''m glad i got the prong, bezel are still seen here and there but i think for studs that prong is just the most classic way to go. you can always reset them later if you want to be more trendy or you can get dangly jackets or something, studs are fun to play around with.

Mine are .5 ct each, and were originally yellow gold 4 prong, a few months ago I had them changed to white gold bezels. I love the look of the bezel because it makes my earrings look so much bigger, but was originally thinking of a martini. However at the time, I was also getting a pendant reset in a bezel, so I decided to have my earrings match. Also WF has new W-prong earrings that are stunning!

Martini baby!!! I just had my old studs re set in the martinit setting and all I can say is wow. They look much bigger and all you see is sparkle!! Really.

Bezels are more of a modern look, whereas prongs are classic and timeless. Since earring settings are so cheap, I''d go with which look you like better. Personally, I chose a prong setting because they''re easy to clean AND they go with nearly everything. I don''t think Bezels match up as well w/other jewelry (except my prong earrings and bezel pendant match nicely

If you get the martini-style settings, mostly all you''ll see is bling, so you''ll never have to worry about coordinating your earrings w/future jewelery purchases. They''ll go w/everything.
