Hi there, I have spend a lot of time researching that''s how I ended up here. I appreciate all the info but am slightly overwhelmed.
I want to buy a pair of diamond studs, retail in germany is crazy, prices are incredibly blown up.
So I found this site in the UK: 77 diamonds which sells certified diamonds.
certification is from IGI which are priced better ? there are some GIA & EGL as well .
Is IGI a good source ?
Now to the diamonds. I want a total of .92 to 1.10 ct, my budget is definately limited so I was looking into G-I S1/S2 set in white gold.

I also came across this pair of .95 studs but they are "SI3" (color is E-F) but according to seller eyeclean, (small table 4.8 mm) now the price is amazing ???
What do you think? I tried to attach a pic but doesn''t work.

Hi Countess

IGI are said to be lower on colour and clarity grading than the two top labs, GIA and AGS. Same scenario for EGL, I think the .95 studs you mention must be EGL graded due to the SI3 grade, this is an EGL invented grade that only they use....Read more here on how the grading labs rank.

What is your budget and are you open to buying online?

The "SI3"''s are actually PGS (Lab in Chicago) & from a diffrent source.
Reading around it was said that IGI actually graded more severely but that came from certification done in Antwerp now it seems I can''t know before purchasing which specific lab has certified. If I know where they grade more "softly" I cold manage around that ?!
My budget is about 1200€ max,max which is about $1700 I don''t mind buying online (77diamonds is an online merchant) but it has to be within europe since the custom etc... charges buying from US add about 35%

I believe extra charges buying from US are VAT plus 2.5% import duty.

Sadly not , depending if you can''t find a retailer that does declare items as gift & value under $45 lol. I had a friend buy an engagement ring from WF. Send via fedex hold up in customs because Fedex is not allowed to act as a "trasitor" for jewels it was a nightmare.

Sorry I don''t know what you mean by trasitor?

Sorry "transitor" probably not the same in english it meens that fedex hasn''t the right to import precious stones when hold in customs you have to pay for a special "transit" service so VAT + fedex brookerage fees + transit fees + tax kills every deal. Since her "ordeal" happened a couple of years ago I called fedex last week to check and the guy was very polite and with regret informed me that I would probably have to pay about 35% but it could be more ghhhh.
I ry again to post pics of the SI3 would love to hear what you think.

Ok, thanks! Well as far as I am aware from other UK PSers who have purchased online from the States the extra is VAT plus 2.5% import duty. Same if you purchased from BN UK you would have to pay VAT+ import duty as the diamonds/ rings come from the US via FedEx.

With the photo unfortunately its difficult to tell but to me the diamonds look cloudy and not well cut.

Bluenile.uk for some resaon is diffrent the VAT + tax is added at the end of your purchase so "no" surprises and since the compagny is "based" in the UK there is no surcharge no hidden extra cost. Now the only problem is that they convert on a 1/1 basis, $1=1€ ( I am in Germany not UK) which in it'self is where the extra charge is hidden.

that's why I was wondering if anybody knew 77diamonds in the UK?

Thanks I don''t know why I got this wrong, so do you think I should rather opt for Bluenile ?
Not cut/clarity/carat wise. I know I want ideal /signature ideal cut for clarity even I should do it no ? but then do I need VVS or can I safely go with S1 or even S2 I have a lovely pendant which is F S2 and really eyeclean.

If the cut is great then you can definitely opt for SI clarity grades if graded by GIA or AGS labs and are verified eyeclean, you don''t need VVS or even VS to have a lovely diamond unless that is your preference.

Now if I get it right Bluenile can''t verify for me if they are eyeclean.

Other question will I be able to see a diffrence in size for let''s say a 4.7 mm or 4.95mm diffrence finacially is quite important.

They can verify for you, but since the stone is not held by them but by the owner, they are actually calling them to ask if it is eye-clean, so standard can vary.

Apparently they can find out for you by asking whoever has the diamond but make sure you tell your BN rep your expectations and standards so they can see if a particular diamond will suit you or not.

Yes you will be able to see a slight difference between the measurements you mention.

Countess, if you get in contact with 77Diamonds they will not only be able to verify for you whether the stones are eye clean or not, but also advise you on the best diamond for your budget.

I've used them before and they were very helpful. You can find all their contact info here.

EDIT: Just remembered they also give a 2% discount if you pay by bank transfer... if taxes and exchange rates are a big issue for you.
