They're about to start crafting my settings and I need to decide if I want the little donut that can sit at the base of the setting, prior to the stem. Here's an example of what I mean:

Martini setting (V-shaped) w/ donut:

Bezel setting (U-shaped), without donut:

I'm guessing the donut is to provide a larger base to hold against the ear vs. just the stem/back (kind of like a way to sandwich the flesh between two flat pieces)? I believe it will also make the earrings protrude a small bit off of the ear; how much I don't know, and don't know if it would be a problem as I like my settings pretty flush. I've asked my BG rep about it and she said that customers love the bezel setting as is and they've never had complaints, but can add the donut if I'd like it. My concerns are that I want to prevent drooping and stretching my piercing.

Thoughts on this? What has your experience/preference been?

I'd do a larger, flat donut for the simple fact that it would help keep them from drooping.

These are U-shaped not V-shaped so I don't think they would stretch out the piercing. How large are the stones? I don't usually have an issue with tilting until the stones get to 8mm in diameter.

I would probably do at least a small donut. I have the same settings minus the milgrain and I notice after wearing my earrings all day that my piercings look a bit bigger. I don’t wear my earrings every day, so they go back to their original shape, but if these are every day earrings for you, a small donut might prevent the issues you’re worried about.

+1

It's the only thing I'd change about my JbG clovers.

another vote for larger/flatter. I have 8-prong martinis and at the end of the day there's a giant indent/hole in my ears (goes away by morning at least)

I have this setting for my 5.5-ish mm stones and I have not had an issue with them as-is. They don’t droop and they are not stretching out my piercing. I also have a four-prong setting for my 6.5-ish mm stones and absolutely needed the donut for those, the V base would have fit right into the piercing and stretched it.

The U shape doesnt stretch the piercing IMHO.

What the donut will do is push the diamond further from your face and make it look bigger.

Threadjack...
@mrsgreeneyes, I don't know if I've asked you this before, but who was the vendor for the bezeled (eternity?) band in your avatar? DK? Bev K?

Mine have a pretty large donut- the setting looks like a crown- and even though the stones are large they don’t droop at all. I love them!

I have a donut on my studs. They're comfortable, don't stretch out my piercings, and stay perky in the ear. I don't have any earrings in the style of those bezels so I can't say how they compare to the donut.
