Diamond stud earrings on eBay?

don't waste your money. $700 will not buy a nice pair of 1 ctw earrings.

I don't think either of those are the way to go. I've bought diamond earrings on ebay and they were great for a couple of years. Look for someone who has photos of the actual diamonds. You'll probably get a better deal from someone who is selling from their own collection rather than a dealer.

You can absolutely find a great pair of earrings on ebay but it takes a lot of work. First, buy from a person not a "wholesaler" who has more than one pair available. Also, ask the seller if they are 100% eye clean at any distance, are they white and clear, not cloudy. Look for actual pictures of the earrings, not some kind of stock photo and read their feedback. Check toolhaus.org to check for their negatives. With all that work, you'll hopefully get a bargain. Plus, by using paypal if it's not what they say it is, you can return them and get a refund. I would NEVER buy from a retailer anymore, you get more for your money buying preowned. So many people sell their jewelry because they need the money in these hard times(I've been there) that you'll find some if you're not in a hurry.

Also, I wouldn't buy halo type earrings, they're just not as classic as a stud. There is a preowned section on Pricescope and a board called diamond bistro.com too. Good luck, remember take your time and ask questions!

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the comments. I like this forum more than purse forum because they all told me no because they didnt have info on the table and girth of the diamond. I am not into halos, sorry. I checked the reviews on toolhaus.org about blue apple diamonds and there were more negative reviews from 2008 -09 but it was about shoes. I messaged people on eBay that bought earrings from blue applE diamonds (3 people) and they all said the earrings were amazing, better than they expected, totally eye clean. And those earrings they got were a different pair of earrings with a lower clarity (.90 ctw diamond stud earrings, SI2-I1 clarity). One ebay buyer even sent me pictures although they were not great pictures and she said they are really sparkly. She said she found a couple carbon spots when she looked at it at 30 x magnification but eye clean. So I'm leaning towards the 1 carat. I tried looking for earrings being sold by people and not wholesales but I can't find any I like and I've been looking for more than a week now...

That's great that you are doing your research and have contacted previous buyers. A week of looking is a good start - but in terms of feedback, on PS there are vendors here that consistently get amazing feedback (GOG, IDJ, BGD, WF - for example) and I think you could probably contact them directly with your requirements and budget and see what they could put together for you.

They come with guarantees that way, customer service, possibly an upgrade policy for future (check that out first) and if there is an issue, they will rectify it quickly.

I'd just be hesitant going that route, when there are alternatives that may get you just want you want (or BETTER!)

Good luck :))

I looked at the vendors but nothing beats the price on eBay. Yeah I'm kind of scared to buy earrings online without seeing them. The feedback on blue apple diamonds gives me a little relief, especially talking with the other three eBay buyers too. There's only 11-12 hours left on those 1.00 carat earrings so I have to act today or maybe they won't put the listing back up. I called the blue apple diamond people like three times this past week and they were really helpful. I tried calling with a few last minute questions last night but they are closed weekends. So idk, I think I might just buy the earrings from them. It will take two weeks to get here because they said everything is custom made. Maybe I'll ask if they can set mine in the shiniest, highest quality diamond I can get out of the bunch they have :nono: ? Haha and they have a two week returns policy so at most, I'll be paying $5.30 for return shipping if anything happens...what do you guys think?

Actually, I just bought the 1.00 ctw pair of diamond earrings. HAHA someone bought a pair and I hesitated and just bought them. I wanted to be the first one to buy it so I might get first dibs on the earrings they have. But oh well. I included this in the message box to the seller: "Can I have these in SCREW BACKS, please? And can you set my earrings with the highest quality, shiniest, whitest, clearest, best looking diamonds I can get with these earrings (NO carbon/black dots that are visible, EYE CLEAN diamonds)? Thanks for all of your help!"

It sounds like I'm a nag but I hope they consider that. The lady that bought a pair of of .90 ctw from them said you have to tell them you want screwbacks or they will just set them in push backs. Hopefully, I made the right decision. Usually when I buy something, I'll feel good about it or I'll regret it and the ones I feel good about turns out to but good things and the things I regret, turn out bad. I am feeling good about this, I can't wait to see them though! I hope I am as happy as the other ebay buyers that bought from Blue Apple Diamonds!!

Good luck! I hope it works out in your favour - excited for delivery - when are they expected, post payment?

That's not a terrible wait - it should pass quickly enough. Although, don't you wish that once you click "Add to cart" there was some mechanism that they are teleported by time travel to your home??? I sure do!

Please post photos when you get them - excited to view your new earrings :))

:errrr: ...imagine a pair of $350 .50ct stone in your mind...

Please post pics.

"We" on the purse forum told you "no" because they were not certified, esp not from anywhere remotely reputable, you didn't know what you were really buying, and there was no data on the stones at all besides what this guy was telling you he thought they were.

We were trying to prevent you from wasting money on something lower quality, and educate you on cut so you would make a more informed choice. You wanted big stones for a really low price instead of quality for what you could afford. I find it funny that you were willing to risk it on Ebay, and not try out an actual legit jewelry vendor online, assuming that everyone on ebay will show you what you were actually getting vs some stock photo.

I hope what you got makes you happy.

Yea- ditto to ame. When you ask opinion of people who are into diamonds and know a lot they're going to be honest and try to educate you and atop you from making a bad decision. I would have went with a reputable vendor and went smaller but better quality. To each his own. I hope they are exactly what you wanted and that you are happy with them.

sometime i just don't understand newbie's way of thinking. they come to PS asking for advises but some don't seem to believe in honest opinions..

Congratulations on your earrings!

I think it's hard to post on a diamond board because a lot of qualities people look for here aren't *normal* everyday considerations for shoppers. There's a big surge of people buying lower colored antique cut diamonds and most are buying on ebay but they don't catch a lot of slack. The regular layman won't be able to tell any difference in diamonds if they're white, sparkly and eye clean. In fact, I see a lot of posts about people with perfectly cut diamonds asking about them going dark, dark centers, colorless diamonds looking tinted in certain light....

Just basically trying to reassure you, a pretty diamond is what they eye finds attractive. I hope they are exactly what you wish for and if for any reason they're not, you can try again. Have the fun is the hunt of a bargain :appl:

Wow so many negative comments. How are you going to say i made a mistake but "i hope you are happy with the earrings"? Thats like finding out your boyfriend cheated on you but you say F you, i hope you are happy with her. It's nice to see a positive comment for once. Yes, it is returnable so if the earrings are oh so bad, I can return them, it's not the end of that. I just messaged another person on eBay that bought from the same buyer but his was SI2 -I1 clarity (lower clarity then the ones i bought) and G color and he said the earrings were awesome and he couldn't be happier with his purchase. So idk, that makes 4 happy people that bought earrings from them. There's feedback on the buyer stating that their appraisal was just like it was stated on the listing.

I posted on here hoping someone that on ebay could tell me about their experience on there . I guess no one on here has bought from eBay. And I agree, I think the people on these kinds are forums are more high class than I am...Im a nurse but I'm still looking for good bargains, I rather spend 2000 dollars on more important things.

And for you people that called me a newbie, yes I am one. But I did educate myself and I did my "research" on this seller. When I get my earrings, I'll get them appraised and show them to my mother. She knows more about diamonds than me and I have an uncle who is a custom jeweler who has made many custom pieces for me but all of them are 18-24k gold pieces. He made my mother's 4 carat diamond ring with VVS clarity, ideal cut diamond ring. I don't know the table percentage or girth or whatever on it, I'm sure she doesn't neither but it's the most beautiful ring I've ever seen. Some people need those details. I'm sure my uncle knows the more detail specs. I'm not buying from him because he doesn't live in this country, otherwise I probably would.

I just have to wait and see how the earrings are. They could be awesome, they could be awful.

I too hope you love your earrings. We all want you to be happy. At the same time, I will be honest about your choice: It is not a choice I would recommend. My opinion has nothing to do with the color or clarity of the diamonds, but everything to do with the value of what you are likely buying. I too am a bargain hunter and I buy off ebay regularly now, there is really no need to get defensive and accuse people of being snobs because they are trying to offer you advice that you do not want to hear :nono:

I have bought diamonds on ebay and you can indeed find good deals on well cut stones. The best way to do that is to buy from a private seller offering earrings from their own collection. Ideally they also provide images of the real diamonds you are buying that are decent quality, but you will pay more for that. Without good images, then an appraisal is helpful because at least it will have face up measurements and perhaps some indication of color or clarity. Or you can buy earrings from a private seller who originally bought them from a reputable source, like Blue Nile, whom we know sells decent quality non-certed stones.

I would not recommend buying diamonds on ebay from a "wholesaler". Most likely the quality is very poor, since they are charging very little for items that are esentially being offered on the primary market (i.e., that have not been marked down for being "used"). So you are paying less that you might elsewhere but it is for lesser quality. If you buy from a private seller, the seller takes the financial "hit" and you will end up paying less for better quality.

Like I said on the other board, I was trying to give you input so that you got the best quality for your dollar, but you refused to consider anything but the biggest size for your money. We're not being negative, we're being direct and you just don't want to hear it. We are not all "higher class" than you. There are people on this particular board that are of all walks and none of us wants you to waste money on something lower quality than what you paid for. We're not trying to get you to overspend, we're trying to get you to be realistic with your budget and get the best quality for that price point.

But you wanted the biggest you can get for your budget, which suddenly is now almost triple what you told me the other day, which was $700 at that time, now is $2000. You won't get the best possible thing in the size you want for your $700 budget, youll get size with stones that are not well cut, or youll get smaller than you demand sizewise that are idea cut. Cut is the most important C. Without a great cut quality, they will not sparkle.

I gave you several options both certified and non-certified, and tried to explain that its safer to buy certified even if smaller than to buy huge non certified studs from someone you don't know well, and have no experience with.

We all hope that you are happy with what you end up with, whatever that might be. People can wish you well, despite disagreeing with your choice, and that is not even remotely the same thing as your analogy about a cheater.

H*ll no, I wasn't being negative! Maybe the tone wasn't read how I posted it. In fact, I was saying so many people seemed harsh to you, that you CAN find a bargain. I'm sorry you misinterpreted my post, it was the EXACT OPPOSITE of what you thought it meant.

My own earrings are from Ebay, 2 ct white, huge sparkly eye clean(G and H S12 100% eye clean at ANY distance) that I paid $2,500! I then used my extra money to buy 6 prong platinum settings from BTD for around $300(I'm not sure the exact amount, this was before the increase in prices and they will sell you settings without stones, awesome customer service) and had them set locally. So, for under $3,000 I have 2 ct diamond studs in platinum settings. They are gorgeous and huge! I need to do a group shot of my jewelry for the show me your collection thread.

It did take me a couple of trial and errors to get to my dream earrings and rings but it was worth the wait to save thousands of dollars. I bought mine before the jump in prices, from a person(not a wholesaler) and they came with the receipt, which was a lot more than I paid.

Here's my less than stellar photography skills. I shake(low blood sugar problem sometimes) and my living room is brown/orange so I tried not to get a reflection of that. They are so clear, sparkly and beautiful in person. The setting from BTD is low and comfy and never bothers me. I've bought settings from them before. Highly recommend them, not bad for under $3,000. If they appear dark it's not them, it's this darn dreary Michigan...no sunshine!

No! I wasn't talking about you. I was saying how it's nice to see a nice comment from someone and that was you! I live in Michigan too! This winter has been bipolar. If you would even call this a winter. Wait, what part of MI are you from?

Your earrings are so beautiful! SI2 clarity and very beautiful for that clarity.

Rarely will clarity really affect the beauty. If it's poorly cut, it won't be that great looking even if it's a VVS1.
