Diamond stud earrings on eBay?

I have noticed more people buying Si2's. They're a great bargain, if they are eye clean, however I know they are all not created equal that's why it takes an honest seller with an eagle eye and a like mind to know if it will make you happy. I always warn sellers on ebay that I'm really really really picky(reading a diamond board will do that to you).

LayTiffany, I'm in Middleville. A tiny town, with a big heart but no sunshine lately!

Haha I called the seller and made that note like I said on the order. I'm sure they know I'm being picky too. I called them a good 3 times are so leading up to the purchase and I called them the day after I purchased the earrings.

I live in Grand rapids! So like 40 mins away haha so we pretty much are experiencing the same kind of weather

Grand Rapids is the *big* town closest to us. I take all my jewelry to Thomas S Fox on the corner of 28th and 29th. They are the ones that set my earrings in the new settings, I also usually have them size rings for me.

You just get so many better deals online than you do at a store though, so sadly I don't buy anything but they're awesome for any repair or work.

I see Pearlmans mentioned on Pricescope a lot. That's in Battle Creek. My brother bought his wife a ring there, someday I hope to just go to look because they have a lot of high end beautiful stuff to drool over.

Yeah I've heard of thomas s fox. Do they do appraisals? I'll have to do an appraisal once I get my earrings but not sure where. I know Jared is doing appraisals on the 28th but it's $150. I heard I can get appraisals on earrings for like $105?

You can get appraisals at any price. Appraisers come in all shapes sizes and competencies.

Appraisers at chain stores are usually not the best and can have an ulterior motive of getting you in the store so they can disparage what you bought and then sell you on something so they can make a sale.

Where are you located. We can help you find a good appraiser.

Thanks! I'm in Grand Rapids, MI

If Pearlman's is too far from you, then give them a call, ask for Julian, ask him if he knows a decent appraiser near you. Personally, if you can go there I'd just go to Pearlman's. You can also follow the recommendation above and go the Tomas S Fox place. Or at least call them and ask them what an appraisal will cost and make an appointment if it's in budget for you.

Yeah pearlmans is too far to me. 1.5 hour drive to get there... I'll call pearlmans when the time comes. How o I look for an appraiser? Are there certain things I should look for?

Appraisal?

I got my earrings today. They were nicely packaged in the Fedex bubble envelope and in a Fedex box. I ordered them on Sunday and got them on Wednesday thinking I would get them on Friday or even next week Tuesday. They were really shiny and big! There were some things that I didn't like about it, though. First, I asked for screwbacks, I got push back earrings. Second, one of the earrings I got had a black carbon spot in the middle of it. I looked at the earrings thru a 10x loupe and I saw inclusions of course but the earring with the black carbon spot in the middle was just there and I can see it without the loupe. Definitely not eye clean in my terms. The other earrings was eye-clean and fine. I was wondering, should I just keep it that way or should I exchange the earrings? I know some of you hate the idea of buying earring on ebay in the first place but those are the only complains I have right now. I dont want to suck it up and regret it in the future but I dont even know if it is worth it to go thru all the hassle and return them back to the seller. How much will the return shipping be? And should I ship with USPS or Fedex? All in all, I'm happy with the looks of the earrings, just those two complains I have. Please help me out. Thanks

If the black carbon spot bothers you now- it will only continue to do so over time. That is my impression. Being a Type A personality I would stare at the inclusion and it would bother me to no end. YOu have to decide if keeping the stone with the carbon spot is worth the money you have already put out.

If you can see any black spots with your naked eye, that's not ok and not eye clean. Return them. I would just send them usps priority with signature confirmation. Make sure you call/ or e-mail them to tell them what problems you have and to ask them to make sure they can replace them with what you want or refund your money. It's not a bargain if you don't get what you want.

Ultimately you will have to make the decision to keep or return the earrings. However, since you asked for opinions...if I were in your shoes I'd probably return the earrings because the carbon spot would bother me, and because if I specifically requested screw backs, I'd want to have screw backs. The issues you have seem to be kind of significant and you should be happy with the finished product.

I don't think it's all that important whether or not you buy from an ebay seller or another vendor. The important thing is that you get what you want regardless of where the earrings are purchased. If you decide to give the original seller another try, you should specify your issues with the earrings you received, and specify again what you expect: eye clean stones (i.e., no carbon spots or other visible inclusions), and screw backs. Contact the seller to determine how you should ship the earrings back to them. Hopefully the second time will be the charm.

Edited because I can't type today. :)

I have no problem with ebay. As disclosed earlier on this thread, I bought a pair of earrings there. I do have a problem with no getting what you want. $700 is still a lot of money to spend. I think you'll do better with a private seller who is selling their own collection.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I still have to take them to a jeweler and see if they think it's the same specs as the seller says it is. I'm just scared I return these earrings, shipping and all, and they send me another pair worst than the ones I have now. I specifically said I wanted screw backs and eye clean diamonds. I even told them on the phone....ugh.

sooner or later you'll learn that you can't buy Filet Mignon for Hamburger price. what you pay is what you'll get in the diamond business.

Yup. Like Dreamer said, if you want a deal you buy preowned diamonds from private sellers and get a return policy. She really gave you the best advice.

You earrings are going to appraise out at I clarity, no way are they SI, I'm sorry. I will eat my words if I'm wrong. But I don't think I will be.

You're wasting your time, and money, taking them to a jeweler. They aren't what you want for at least 2 reasons. Send them back, get your money back, and start over.

Agreed. The money you will spend appraising these can be used towards a slightly bigger budget. With a black inclusion staring you in the face- id return.

I never had any luck with the mass diamond sellers on ebay, that's why I chose to buy from a person with an actual picture of the earrings they were selling and they were selling their own personal jewelry.

Anytime I tried to deal with one of the multiple quantity sellers, I'd get one bad earring and one good one. I think think they do that on purpose, hoping that you'll keep them. I can tell you that most likely, if you send them back, that same seller will not send you better ones because if they had them, they would have sent them to you the first time rather than paying postage twice.

My advice would be to return them for a refund and scour ebay looking for an individual with a detailed description, an actual picture and good feedback. Also make sure that you do not buy clarity enhanced diamonds, you want ones with no treatments.

There is a well known Pricescope vendor that sells on ebay, ID Jewelry, but you HAVE to e-mail him and let him know you are from Pricescope so that he knows your standards are higher than the average ebayer/consumer:

Yeah I messaged IDJ. I'll see what they have to say... I'm disappointed that so many people had great luck with this seller, even after talking to 4 buyers and they all said nothing but great things about this seller. But when it came to me, the diamonds were not what I expected. Yes, I know most ppl will say you had it coming but I did my snooping with this seller and heard great things about them. Just in my experience, I guess it was not a good one. Sometimes I think maybe they sent my earrings to a different person because two other people bought from the same listing...no feedback from those people yet though. I have to wait to call Blue Apple because they are on PST....

These buyers may not be as educated on diamonds as you are and probably would be happy with department store stuff anyway...

Exactly what minim said- those other buyers may have had lower expectations than you- or care less about certain quality aspects as you...

Yes, those people might not mind a black carbon spot, heck they might think all diamonds look that way.

Actually one of the ladies got hers appraised and the specs were just like the listing said for hers and she's been buying and selling diamond jewelry
