Hi everyone! Just found this site while doing research and y’all are awesome!

I have a couple of questions so bare with me.

I have found a BEAUTIFUL setting at Shane Co. I actually found it two years ago and decided it was too much money. But I was scrolling last night and found it again and I gasped and my heart skipped a beat so it’s the one! Now from my reading/research it’s best to not buy a diamond from there.

now for the questions

I’m thinking about buying a diamond from blue Nile and having it mounted. Is that an option?
If that is an option, do you recommend Shane Co for setting the stone? My research tells me no but I want to verify.

I also believe that per Shane Co warranty if another jeweler touches the ring it voids the warranty. If that is so. could I have the ring and diamonds insured/warrantied elsewhere? How does that whole process work? 7B8A4D1D-FF73-4F6B-B52F-626C610420AE.jpeg

Depending on the cost of this setting, I’d be contacting someone like David Klass and getting him to make it for you. It would be much better quality. Pave rings live and die on how well they’re made and how good their pave is. Check out @sledge’s story of finding The Ring but getting a much much nicer version made.

Wholeheartedly agree! You unfortunately can't count on Shane's pave being nicely done. E.g., enlarge the depictions of the "model" rings' profiles on the listing page & you'll see that the pave is uneven.

Plus, I'm wondering about the fact that Shane is saying there is only 1 of this 3-ring set remaining. Which sounds like they'll simply resize it to whatever ring size you need -- which is less than ideal, especially with pave. Granted, you may face the need in the future to have your ring(s) resized, but at least you won't start off with the concern that one or more of the melee diamonds has been disturbed from its setting.

P.S. May I ask if you've seen this set in person & tried it on? I know I'm not the only woman who thought I wanted a certain style -- but ended up with something very different because it appealed to me much more in real life ;))

Setting all together is 3,520. Never heard of David Klass but I will look up. Also how do I find Sledge’s story?

And here's the Show Us Your David Klass Bling thread that's on the Show Me Your Bling forum:

I also don't recommend Shane Co settings. The diamonds won't be high quality and the pave work won't be great either. I would 100% have David re-create the setting. That way it will be made for you specifically, purchased for a fair price (the Shane Co mark up is a joke for how low quality they are), and will be excellent workmanship.

However, I'm not sure it's ethical to ask someone to completely copy someone else's work
So if David Klass makes this setting & modifies it to avoid copying, will the op like that?

Just so you know, though I have never owned an elaborate setting like that, I did reach out to DK to recreate something elaborate I found. He quoted me higher kt gold and better cut and clarity mele for just $100 more than what the jewlery store was asking. That included setting my stone also. I know from seeing work he has done for posters here I would trust him to make a durable and pretty quality ring. That's just my 2 cents.
