After searching for my fiancee's engagement ring for months (with the help of many awesome PSers) I successfully proposed and now she is enjoying the fruits of *our* labor.

However, I can't help but feel a sense of "diamond search withdrawal syndrome" which I am terming DSWS. Without something to search for and buy I feel bored and aimless! And also, I wish I could enjoy my fiancee's ring but obviously I can only do so when I am with her!

Anyone else ever feel this way?

Unfortunately, I am always on the hunt for something for myself and I often get inspired by something, thus I very frequently have new diamond love affairs.

What annoys me the most is when I have to withhold myself. I totally get you though. There is definitely a down after completing a great project. Unfortunately the only cure to this addiction is acquiring a new diamond. And then on and on it goes. I am telling you that your fiancee is a lucky girl with more bling coming her way in the future too.

After suffering from DSWS for many years it lead me to take my current job!
So be careful or you might find yourself in the trade! ;-)

All the damn time :mrgreen2:

Don’t worry... I’m sure you’ll find new projects to work on soon! And just wait until you discover colored stones and pearls; there’s so much more to learn! :appl:

For now, how about working on designing your wedding bands?

The solution is obvious.
Get a nice diamond for yourself. :Up_to_something:

Why should girls get to have all the fun?

Skypie,
Stick around and help others find their forever diamonds. The expertise you have acquired in your own search is pure gold for newbies.
You get your fix while making a very meaningful contribution to others. And you will continue to learn as you go.
But like Karl says, be careful or you may find yourself with a trade badge. :-o

100% on that train. After Christmas, I've had to take myself away from PS....otherwise I would have ended up with a new outside the budget purchase. :cry2::cry2:

My mother in law graciously offered a watch as a wedding gift, and asked me to pick whatever watch I wanted. It is our culture and tradition. But I bluntly said to her that I wanted a diamond ring, instead of a watch (seriously, I was out of my mind........) I started a thread asking for suggestions for men's settings. I almost pulled the trigger, but my fiancee and I decided that we should go for a watch, and we did.

Thinking back again and again, I don't know if I made a right decision, and I am still here drooling over others' diamonds. I still think my wife's ER is mine. If I ever win a Jackpot, the first thing I would do is to fly to Houston, TX.

BIG TIME. I love my ring and am obsessed by it, but I don't get that "waiting for it" or "looking for the right diamond" high that I had during that process.

Stick around and help others, OR buy yourself something shiny ;)

I was the same way as you. It was a lot of fun getting educated on here and shopping for the perfect diamond. I was hooked big time! Life got busy and I didn’t have the time to check in much so I wasn’t visiting here muc... probably a good thing or who knows how much more money I would have spent... :D

I completely relate. I'm eagerly keen to upgrade my wifes ER but she isn't having any of it!

There’s nothing wrong with sharing what you’ve learned with others, and getting ideas for future purchases. That’s what makes this community so special, and inviting; we all share the same love of bling, and look forward to helping someone else’s dreams come true! Honestly, there is nothing more satisfying than helping someone find their “forever” ring for the love of their life. It’s completely rewarding, and it gives you the opportunity to keep your options open to things you never knew existed, or wanted. PS is a whole world of its own just waiting to be explored. Get involved in discussions on RT, and ogle over the SMTB thread. Look into vintage & antique jewelry, and learn something new! You may find inspiration for your wedding bands!
All of us experience your DSWS, which is why we stay. ;)2

I wondered what ever happened with your diamond ring search!! Now I know, lol.

There's no rule that says you can't have a watch and a diamond ring......:Up_to_something2::mrgreen2::lol-2:. I am here to enable you. I EXCEL at enabling........

I like the search, I like the eye candy, I like the science, I like the community, I like the learning and I like enabling others ;-)

In a way it's a good thing diamonds are so expensive (compared to other typically expensive hobbies) - as they're *definitely* far outside my budget, I can't get tempted to 'just add a couple of hundred on the credit card' like I might (and do...) with other hobbies, which inevitably leads to a repeat in another month and a large bill I can't pay off by the end of the year!

At least knowing I need a 2ct+ asscher or Octavia to get the 7mm-wide ring coverage I want, and that I want colourless and VVS+, means I also know it will be the best part of, what, 30 grand?, which is not going to happen for a lonnnng time... lol (Unless whatever the price of the 2.something D VVS Asscher in Yoram's gemconcepts boutique is, is payable in Monopoly money?? )

I guess hobbies are good for teaching patience!!

You need to join to find a diamond for ypu. @kenny has some stunning tension sets. You could build something as a wedding ring for yourself.

These are wise words - you should heed them ;)

It’s an obsession! The first weeks I came to PS i ended up with a notebook full of numbers. And angles and drawings and felt kind of crazy. My friends in real life became boring and I turned to PS for friends who understood that, of course, this diamond stuff was totally normal LOL
Now, sometimes to relax in the evening I pick a ceratin set of parameters of stone to search for and look at everything available before « choosing » one, or
Instead of reading myself to sleep I sometimes take my diamonds and loupe to bed.
Of course every vacation trip is preceeded by a google search for the estate jewelers in that area.
Etc. Etc.

I think I should have said addiction rather than obsession.
Diamonds are transporting.
Enjoy!
Sounds like your fiance’s stone is your gateway drug, I mean diamond.
Or, alternatively, get out while you can! It MAY not be too late! LOL

Jimmianne, at least I am not the only "crazy" one louping my diamonds all the time. Hey, diamonds are at least a healthier addiction than chocolates or many other things and definitely more forgiving on our waste lines.

What I love about them is that you do not have to be perfect, young or gorgeous to enjoy them.

I have a bad hair day or am lazy to get started on my mess of curls, I simply pull my hair back and put some studs or nice earrings on. Wow what a difference.

I have a swollen PMS day, no one will look at my tummy (well hopefully) if I distract attention by something blingy on my neck or wherever. On the day I would not go dress shopping I can still enjoy, dream about and design bling.

You feel that your neck is aging, no problem, I had a customer once in her 80s that said she does not have a nice neck anymore but she still loved wearing a pendant over her dress or earrings.

I also think they look great on everyone´s hands, even if they are not as young anymore. They distract and beautify. They are forgiving of beauty flaws and making us feel special. Also, the hunt, then the design, then the actual making of the piece, many months of excitement sometimes as opposed to just grabbing a dress in half an hour. Much more creative too, brings out the technical and artistic sides in us.

And the best, everyone, all genders can wear them, I personally love a man wearing a stunning diamond.

I think it fair to say that an Average Joe wearing a diamond is still unusual (male celebrities and sportsmen having their own set of rules!) so I think we should all strive to increase the number of chaps wearing rocks, and I'm happy to play my part in that ;)

Now, has anyone got a few tens of thousands of dollars to lend me permanently...?

Dear LAWD! This is so me... It's an addiction/obsession that my wallet cannot support, unfortunately... Every now and then I'll get into a CS project for RHR, but it's NEVER the same high as when I was looking for my upgrade!! ;)

Actually a lot of people just leave this forum once they’ve bought their diamond and showed it off in SMTB threads haha.

OP you should just buy a diamond for yourself and your wedding band! Also you’ll be living with you wife in future so you can admire her diamond more often in future xD I think you could start researching your wedding band at this point.

Some people also design cool diamond bands for their wives as stackers or RHRs, diamond pendants, diamond earrings, diamond tennis bracelets. You can start looking for anniversary gifts!
