EGL cert you say? where was this EGL diamond graded? There's alot of quality varation with their certs and they arent up to the AGS or GIA level. buyer beware

As has already been said, EGL grading is unreliable. You can't get a 1 ct. true H VS2 for $3500, I promise (unless you get some kind of great second hand deal). EGL can easily be 2-4 color grades off. Have you seen the stone in person? Can you provide magnified photos? If you have a full refund, unconditional return period, I suppose you could buy it and have an independent appraiser look at it for you. But it is likely K color or lower at that price.

It is much better to look at GIA or AGS graded stones because you'll at least know what you are getting!

You know. Even if the grading is two color grades off, the price is so good I would have it sent to a good appraiser. Neil Beaty would be my choice unless there is a good local person near you (where are you?). It will cost you 180 bucks or so for Neil (includes shipping) so you might be able to have it done locally cheaper but even if you do need to send it to Neil... but it might be worth it. If Neil confirms that it's around a J VS2 (eyeclean) stone and if it has a good ASET and he says the light performance is good-- I think it might be worth it for that size stone for 3,500.

But that's why we don't recommend EGL, because you need independent verification of everything they say which costs time and money. But in this case... worthwhile to get the second set of eyes on it.

I would definitely send it for an independent appraisal before turning away from it just because of the EGL cert at the price that this stone is going for. If you are buying on specs, you may be disappointed that it MIGHT be certifed a lower colour/clarity grade, but if you are buying based on a stone, and it is appraised within tolerances for the price, and the stone looks amazing, you might not want to walk away from the deal just because of the EGL cert.
