This was my MILs original engagement ring, I had it reset and the Stone was fine and wore it while my marquise was being reset. I pulled it out and cleaned it along with all the new pieces we have, as I was examining the diamond I noticed what looked like a crack in the stone.

Wednesday I’m going to have an appraiser look at it along with the mapped report we have but I’m thinking the diamond got damaged while I wore it. The diamond is low quality but would an insurance company cover what is most likely due from the inclusions of the Stone? Not sure if I’m phrasing it correctly? Has anyone had experience with this type of thing?

The inclusion is now visible on the table when before it was just the edge

I don’t have an answer for you but wanted to say I’m sorry about the ring..sad :((

It is actually possible for GIA, AGS or a REALLY GOOD appraiser to look at the diamond and see if the surface reaching inclusion existed at the time the diamond was originally polished. If it was, there will be micro abrasions at the surface caused by the polishing compound entering the surface breach.

These require high magnification to be remotely visible, so would not be eye visible. If the surface reaching inclusion existed at the time of polishing, then in most cases, you will not get an insurance payout for it now being somewhat larger and eye visible. (Pre existing condition.)

Thank you Wink! Might just speak to my husband about selling this diamond and putting whatever we get towards a remodel I want lol

I wish my wife could have ever gotten a remodel for the value listed on that appraisal. She has done two remodels in the 40+ years we have owned our house, both major improvements that basically changed our domicile from a mere house to a wonderful home.

Don’t beat yourself up <3

I hope it turns out for you!

Better for it to have been work and loved, I say!
