I bought a pair of 2ct tw diamond huggies from Whiteflash about 10 years ago. I thought I would get a lot more wear out of them, but they are difficult to insert so I seldom wear them. I have been trying to decide what to do with them and wondered how difficult it would be to use the diamonds from the earrings to make a diamond band with double row of diamonds. Any suggestions before I contact a jeweler?

A bombé ring with scattered diamonds?

DK :))

If it were me, I think I'd sell the huggies and put the money in my Sparkly Fund. I bet diamond huggies from WF would sell fairly quickly and at a good price. And it would be less hassle (and maybe less expense) than trying to reconfigure them into something new.

It’s not difficult at all.
I bought pre-loved WF huggies specifically to use the ACA in another ring design - as they are unavailable to buy loose. IIRC.

If you don’t specifically want to have ACA’s in your new ring - sure, sell them as huggies and start your new ring with other diamonds.
Some jewelers will work with outside stones, some won’t.

It could work theoretically. I guess they could convert each huggie into a ring by adding a shank...

But my concern would be if it could be done in your size given the current curvature/setting of huggies. I wonder if it might save you some $ if you were to keep the stones and have them reset into a brand new ring setting. Then scrap the earring settings to recoup $?

OTOH, I know that labor is a large part of the cost. So buying a new piece as opposed to repurposing the huggies might work out better?

Lol, sorry for all the suggestions. I'm no help.

Why are they so hard to put on?

Ditto @AprilBaby

Have you considered selling them? I think you wouldn't have any problem selling earrings from Whiteflash
I have considered selling them, but I love the look of the diamonds and would love to repurpose them. I suffered an injury over 2 years ago and my left hand is still not a 100% and I have been unable to wear my wedding rings because my knuckles are still a bit enlarged (ring size 5 and currently more of a 5 1/2 or 5 3/4). Not sure if they will ever go down. I have considered checking to see if my engagement ring can be stretched a bit, if not I would get another setting. I don't think my wedding band can be stretched so I would like to replace it and since I have the diamonds in the huggies I am considering using those.

Have you thought about checking with your jeweler to see if they could add an arthritic shank to your engagement ring? Doesn't solve the issue with your wedding band, but could save your e-ring.

I haven't checked with the jeweler yet since I hoped by now that my hand issue would be resolved. But I will definitely ask about an arthritic shank. Thanks!

Question - would you consider asking WF is they can make an adjustment to the huggies so that you can wear them? 2 ctw is a very nice set to have and it would be a shame to give them up. Otherwise, I wouldn't see why they couldn't be reused for a new wedding band. What do you think you'd be happier with - a new wedding band or reformatted huggies that you can enjoy wearing?

I contacted WF a month ago to see if they would make custom huggies for me (U shaped, straight post, post set behind the first stone). Unfortunately they don’t. Maybe they will consider it if more of us ask for another design?

Boo!!! Ok, then I'd ask DK if they could rework it for you.

Brought my huggies to the jewelers today. They will see if they can redo the post for me (straight post with a back ) and the huggies now will just end at the bottom set of diamonds. Hopefully it can be done and I can finally wear these earrings. I never thought that these huggies would be so immensely difficult to insert, otherwise, I would have picked out something else.

Picked my huggies up from the jewelers today. So much easier to put in and much more comfortable as well. I am so happy that I did this and it did not break the bank!
