I'm looking to buy an engagement ring sometime soon and would appreciate some advice.

What i think i'm looking for:
Round
Color F to H
Clarity VVS1- VS2
Carat ~1.1-1.3 but i'm not sure if its better to spend $ to get larger or other specs.
Budget $10k-$15k

A couple I've been looking at:
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3143305.htm?source=pricescope
http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut-loose-diamond-3143293.htm?source=pricescope

i would be thankful for any suggestions or criticisms.

thanks.

I can't comment on the specs of your stones, there are amazing diamond wizards on here who will do that for you :) But what I can tell you is that if it were me, I would go with the absolute best cut and biggest size I could get for the $$. So I would definitely sacrifice on the color and clarity, so I would go for the H and Vs2, or better yet find eye clean si1's...

My original e-ring is a GIA G color VS2, had I known more then and done more research I would have got a lower color and eye clean Si1 so I could have had bigger diamond and better cut for the same $$! That was my biggest regret about my decision. None of your fiancee's friends are going to whip out their loupes and start inspecting for inclusions that aren't visible :) IMO eye clean is all you need, they just want to admire something big beautiful and really sparkly :)... Good luck, you have a great budget, I am sure you will find something beautiful! But just my opinion, happy shopping, exciting time!

Here are 4 great options, all of which have top-notch cuts (AGS 0 - Ideal) and solid upgrade policies:

1.6ct, H, VS2

1.638ct, I, VS1

1.6ct, G, SI1

If you don't want to exceed 1.3ct, I would go for this option:
1.26ct, G, VS2

thanks for the replies! i'm at work right now but i'll look through everything you guys said tonight.

a question, looking at this one: http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/12066/ i see a black mark near the center in the image and the various scans. for eye clean, is that something to be concerned about?

Yes, you would have to ask GOG how eye-clean it is. From how many inches away can you see that inclusion?

Thanks again. I'll probably aim for the larger diamonds instead of smaller.

I emailed GOG for more information about the two diamonds.

Looking at the BG one, i haven't seen something like this before where its a preorder and i'm not sure if i'm willing to go to the I color. from the other thread about it, preorder is a new concept. i need to think about how adventurous i feel.

i'll keep searching and reading. this has been helpful.
