Can anyone give me some advice on the following:

I am considering 2 stones and am trying to figure out their relative value.

They are both G VS2

1 looks like this:

Depth % 61.1
Table % 55
Crown an. 34.6
Pav. an. 40.9
Culet 0
Polish and symmetry are both excellent

I am told these numbers yield an AGS(0).

The second stone is

Depth % 58.4
Table % 57.8
Crown An. 34.7
Pav. An. 40.1
Culet .9
Polish and symmetry are both Very Good.

I am told these numbers yield an AGS(2).

The first stone winds up costing ~10% more per carrot, and I am wondering if this is worthwhile. For whatever its worth, (and I really have no idea what its worth in terms of objective value), the HCA likes the second stone better, giving it Excellent scores down the board and a total score of .1, while the AGS(0) stone gets Excellent light return, but only very good's on the other factors, with an overall score of 1.3.

If anyone can offer their thoughts I'd appreciate it.

Without their weight, the relative value issue is not "relative". The tradional ideal cut #1 is worth more than the other considering the way the market operates. If you could see both stones, you very well may find the HCA has told you correctly and that #2 is the better stone an better deal all around.

The more one knows, the more questions to ask. It isn't easy.

virtual images for these diamonds.

#1 has some partial light leakage under the table while #2 has static dark arrows – observer’s head reflection.

You have to compare them to tell which one you prefer.

DiamCalc cut evaluation yields:

#1
Light Return Mono: 0.99 (Very Good)
Light Return Stereo: 0.99 (Very Good)
Leakage Mono: 0.95 (Very Good - Good)
Leakage Stereo: 0.93 (Very Good - Good)
Contrast: 0.97 (Very Good)
Fish Eye: Absent

#2
Light Return Mono: 0.94 (Very Good - Good)
Light Return Stereo: 0.99 (Very Good)
Leakage Mono: 1.01 (Very Good)
Leakage Stereo: 1.02 (Very Good)
Contrast: 1.05 (Very Good)
Fish Eye: Slightly Visible (Acceptable)

Thanks... That's very interesting. Is there anyway to use this info to determine an absolute market value?

Also, if it helps, The AGS(0) stone is 1.78 car., and the other is 1.73, so I think they're pretty comparable (but please tell me if I'm wrong.)

The AGS(0) is ~7750/ca and the other is ~$7000/car.

Thanks for your help.

Just by comparison... Both prices sound reasonable.
