I just brought a 1.56 cart round diamond (GIA certification): I color, VS2 clarity, Excellent cut. I plan to set a ring with this diamond in Platinum (PT950). One of my friend tell me if I want to set it in Platinum, it better to upgrade the color to H / G. I color will be visible (a little bit yellow) to eye.

Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance.

There are plenty people here on pricescope that have I&J colors in Plat. If its a Ideal cut Round diamond I say that it will look good in Plat......Even Tiffanys puts I color in Plat, if its good enough for them then its good enough for me

Have you seen it yet? Does it look yellow to you?

Don''t worry about what your friends say. Just consider what looks good to you.

Thanks so much. I hold this diamond now. You know it is hard to say if it looks yellow to me if I just look it individually. Actually, I compare it with an H / VV2 diamond ring (my mother’s ring) set in 14K white gold. It seems a little bit warmer than the H color ring. (But the H one is “very good” cut, it is not as sparkling as this one.)

Ditto. A well cut and reliably graded I will not look yellow. You may notice the teeniest tint of warmth from the side in some lights if you are looking for it, but overall an I colour is still a good choice and we do have many happy I and J owners here on PS - so if you like the I then that is the main thing.

That''s really what you should focus on, because that''s how it will be worn.

I''m sure it will be fine!

I have an excellent graded gia j color diamond set n plantinum. It faces up pretty white and beautiful. In certain lighting, I can see some warmth but most of the time, it''s white to me.

I color is fine for most people. Unless she is color sensitive it will probably be fine. My personal sweet spot is H.

I think an I in platinum is fine. Mrs. W is right! Tiffany''s wouldn''t sell I color diamonds in platinum if it looked bad!

Since you have a well cut stone I would have no concern setting it in platinum at all.
