I just recently found this website, and man what a crazy amount of info!! i just started looking for an engagement ring for my gf, and fell in love with one today. Also, the salesperson showed me a pretty standard platinum, flat edge cathedral setting, and said it was cost around $2700. Im guessing that this is because its a "Scott Kay" brand. I found similar mountings online for around $1000. the price difference is coming from it being a brand name right?

You are paying partly for the name, partly for the metal. Metal prices are way up.
