I have heard of him but have never seen any of his watches.

when you talk about independent watchmakers Philippe Dufour is thee man. About 13 yrs ago his least expensive model (The Simplicity) was selling for $38K. You would needed to put 1/3 down and then wait approx. 7 yrs for delivery, b/c he is a one man show, every part is made by the man himself, then put the watch together with his own two hands. Today this watch in nice used condition will easily fetch $80K at auctions. AFAIK he will not take any more orders for his watches. He can only produce about 25 watches per yr.
