I have a chance to get this 1.73 stone and really need an impartial expert eye to take a look. I have attached the IS.

I am an extreme novice, but what think I see is some really good red. My real concern is about the black band around the center. Is this just a bad shot or bad cut / stone?

Here are all the specs in an earlier thread, so I don''t have to repost them:

thanks for all of the help, everyone here has been a great resource.

Is this the same diamond from the earlier thread?

Yes it is. I just wanted to post it as a single question about the IS on this one stone and not a choose between these two stones thread.

Yah it is the same stone. I am no expert on asscher and I have been devouring a lot of information on asscher. Correct me if I am wrong. This stone has more black at the bottom than the other stone. I don''t know if it is applicable for the fancy shape like asscher. The crown height for this stone is slightly out of range whereas the other is within the acceptable range

Stitch, I am in the same boat. I have been spending my free time reading as much as I can on asschers for the last few months.

I think crown height is ok, I know I have seen it on here before that 12-17 is acceptable.....I can''t seem to find that thread though.

I do love the stone, but not having viewed it in person I have that nagging concern in the back of my head about the IS and ASET pics. I have read where some black is ok in that it provides contrast, but I am just really trying to dot my i''s and cross my t''s on this one.

If anyone can jump in with some feedback on the IS and ASET that would be great.

The question is and an IS does not tell you this is does it stay dark under tilt or does the light play across it.
Ask for a phone conversation with someone who has the diamond in hand.
Have them describe the patterns face up then what it does as it is tilted while paying attention to the under table area.
Other than a video or a bunch of pictures there isn''t any other way to tell if the area is over dark than looking at it while tilting the diamond.

In this pic some of them lite up under slight tilt so they are likely ok but a conversation will put your mind at ease.

It is actually quite amusing, I just had this very conversation with Bob at WF. He really did put my mind at ease. Thanks again for everyones information, it has really helped in this whole process.
