I found my mom a 7.7 - 10.8 x 9.3 mm scissor cut no heat yellow sapphires.
The setting is terrible but comes with a fair amount of diamonds to take out - would love to see any ideas you guys might have for the setting

Where do you find these things??? I need you to shop for me, clearly. Now I want a huge yellow sapphire too.

I like the idea of a crisp bezel for the center stone with graduated diamonds bead-set down the side (if you are trying to use the round diamonds) or baguettes. I don’t think I would change the shape of the center stone assuming irl the cut looks as nice as the pic - it doesn’t appear to have anything wrong with it and is a rarer shape for sapphire so I think more unique to keep it like it is.

And idk your mom of course but is she the type of person to prefer classic and simple or ornate or modern and is she careful with her hands or likely to wear jewelry in “not approved” situations? I don’t know how old she is but I’d also think about something that is easy to resize or if you need an adjustable shank due to large knuckles/arthritis.

I apologize if it came across that I was going to recut the stone. I am definitely not. Please ignore the shape of the center stones on the inspiration pics. Only pay attention to the settings.

I’ve told her she needs to be careful with her rings and she’s been relatively careful with an emerald ring we had DK make so if I tell her she most likely will be. She works in an office.

I don’t want it too “vintage” inspired as the cutting of the stone is more modern. I don’t need an extremely modern setting either but classic, I suppose

For this above reason
I pick the first green stone setting, out of the ones you posted
Beautiful!

Too vintage?

Not loving the band, but I am liking the YG bezel (though this one feels a bit thick). Seems to make it really pop if you go the halo route

Not her style and also would require more diamonds than we have to work with

I didn't know if you were necessarily going to recut the stone - I just know you have in the past for rings so thought I'd add my two cents on the issue if it was a consideration.

I like the way the stones taper down in the first pic you posted:

Like that but maybe with a fine bezel around the center stone? Or tab prongs? I'd skip the milgrain. I'd do one of each of the big diamonds then smaller ones... idk what size the big ones are but they look potentially big enough for cute stud earrings? Or sidestones for another ring.

Right some of the stones seem quite large. It’s an odd setting lol

Lol yes... it’ll look SO much better when you’re done with it... the sapphire is too beautiful to be trapped in that.

I always worry about bezeling though becuase it’s a large stone if it gets chipped or abraded we’d have to throw away the whole setting to have it polished.

But it would protect it. Hard to say

Does the diamond in the prongs bridge the size gap between the large side diamond and the one closest to it?

Heh heh.
The round diamond on the top of the prong that holds the sapphire?
Is it perchance the size of it being in between the largest diamond and what’s next to it?
Probably not but had to ask. Hard to tell from this perspective

if I understand your question- I am not sure the size of any of the stones in relation to the other stones. It does appear to be larger than the melee in the shank but smaller that the 4 basket diamonds.

I also think modifying this one to include the graduated rounds would look stunning ( and not really out of place with the scissor cut - like the really pretty green and yellow gold example ring would) . I don’t think the gorgeous side detail on this one has to rely on an elongated trillion sidestone.

Just the side detail- not as a halo.
But a lot is going to depend on when you get to see the ring and whether you like the diamonds enough to reuse them, and the size relations they are.
Fun project!

Eh, I would only bother getting it polished if the damage was quite bad. It’ll take a long time for that to happen to a sapphire and in 15+ years you might want a different setting anyway.
