I have noticed that more than a few people were missing the separate political party threads on the basis of what they were intended for, which was a positive place for each party to safely discuss and support their candidates and issues without being attacked or questioned. In a effort to continue these threads and give each party a safe place to convene with members of similar ideas, we decided to try the discussions again.

These threads are considered SAFE areas where the respective parties or those with POSITIVE additions to the discussions are allowed to discuss political issues or support their candidate.

The threads should NOT be used to complain about or degrade the other party whatsoever.

If there are any concerns about the intentions of any member posting within these discussions, it should be brought to our attention so we can deal with it as necessary. If anyone has any questions about the appropriateness of a post, please clarify before posting.

As always, if there are any questions, comments or concerns, please contact us directly.

Thanks Ali. I like that rule. A LOT.

Awesome. Thanks!

Haha! I''ll try to take pictures. But assuming it happens, we''ll probably barely be able to see him through the crowd!

Ladies of the Obama persuasion...

Since this is a Democrat thread, I wanted to ask you what you all are doing to get Obama elected? I ask because I've been volunteering full time for Obama, and while I know others cannot volunteer full time, there is A LOT you can still do for our candidate in this last week and last few days! It's not over til it's over so please, don't be complacent and think this is in the bag. We want this to be an overwhelming mandate, so there is no question who has won this election. And while discussing the issues of the day and debating different thinking online can be interesting, volunteering will actually get the job done.

I wanted to share my experience with you all in the hopes that you'll see the value of using your free time to volunteer between now and Election Day! ;) I don't live in a swing state but all states that have campaign offices in them have phone banking and data entry positions they need filled. My office is supporting the Colorado campaign. Each day we have phone bankers calling all day long, they speak with Coloradans to find out if they have decided whom to vote for. Those who are Obama supporters are noted and asked if they'd like to volunteer. Those who are undecided are noted. I input all this data into a remote data bank, where it gets sorted nightly, with some info going to the ground crews and some coming back to the support offices. If someone's not home or their line is busy, they go back on our call lists so we can try to make contact with them the next day. If we speak to them and they want to volunteer, that info goes to the ground crews so they can make contact with those folks. Undecideds info goes to ground crews so they can canvass those homes and speak with them in more detail, and areas with the most undecided voters. It's all very focused and organized, but WE NEED YOU to help push this over the line.

So may I pose a challenge to those of you on this particular thread? Instead of posting here all day/night long, will you please consider taking some of that energy and channeling it towards volunteering? If you don't have a local campaign office nearby, no problem. Go to the Obama website and you'll find that you can download call lists from swing states and make calls from your home. And you can also load the data remotely from your home computer. Please, help us out but using your time to take positive action NOW! I totally appreciate the amazing knowledge and discussions you guys generate here but...that's not going to get this job done...we still need able bodied, smart, intelligent people (yes, intelligent, it's not a dirty word!) to phone, log data, make canvassing house calls, driving to a nearby state for a weekend of canvassing, etc. (we may be headed to Nevada this weekend to canvass in rural NV...I know someone who did it the last two weekends and said it was an incredible experience!). There's something to be done every minute of every day until November 5th, yeah, Nov. 5th! Because on the evening of Nov.4th, we'll be calling Alaska and Hawaii to Get Out The Vote until the last polls close there too. No matter what the election results are by the time evening rolls around, we want everyone to cast their vote. It's been a very rewarding experience, and I'm proud to serve along side the amazing folks I've met while volunteering...and I urge all of you on this thread to join us, I promise you it'll be worth the time expended!

Cheers all...And now, back to the saltmines...

welcome back surfgirl!

and great advice! i had no idea you could download call lists and volunteer like that. very cool (although surprising!)

Mimzy, do it, it''s an awesome experience! All you guys on this thread have really impressed me with your depth and breath of knowledge and facts on the issues. Imagine how much good you could do if you shared that with undecided voters?!? Do it!

I wasn''t really sure where to post this, so I''ll stick it in here. I found it interesting, if not a bit sad, but worth reading. It''s an up close and personal look at Pennsylvanian''s, and why they will, or won''t vote for Obama.

PA Democrats see color, and beyond it.

I especially appreciated at Ms. Ruscitti''s thoughts.

Surfgirl: GREAT to see you around these parts!

Although I too don''t live in a swing state, i''ve been working on doing my part to help turn Nevada BLUE by writing postcards for the campaign (tried phonebanking and it wasn''t for me)

A couple of weeks ago, DH and I went to a fundrasing event at a friends house. BARACK THE VOTE was a musical event, with a lineup of bands that all volunteered their time for the cause. Folks from the L.A Democratic party and local Obama campaign were also on hand to rally the attendees.

DH is a homebrewer, and volunteered to remake a stash of strong brew donated by another homebrewer so it was fitting for group consumption. The end result was 10 gallons of OBAMABREW. He got rave reviews for it!

There were about 100 people in attendance, and the event raised about $9k!

And I got to meet Obama! Well, the cardboard version...

So Dems, what are YOUR plans for election night?

And what do you guys think of the Anchorage paper endorsing Obama?

I''m gonna be HERE!!! I think we NEED to have an election night thread, similar to the "Debate the Debates" threads we''ve had before. Thing2 is on board . . . how about everyone else???

I''ll be here. I already warned FF that I''ll be glued to the TV...

I have a feeling that it will be a LONG night next Tuesday. I wish I could take the next day off, but I can''t. I know I''ll be glued to the TV too. I have a good feeling about this one.

Great to see you again Surfgirl! We missed you!

I''ll be here. Waiting for my Nov 5 birthday gift of a landslide Obama victory.

I''ll be here and glued to the TV. Hubby wants McCain, so it will be interesting. We have always voted along the same lines. I don''t think we''ll be watching in the same room!!!

That''s so cool!!! Freke yes it will be interesting for sure. He''s threatened to tie me up, so I can''t get to the polls. Kidding of course!! Or is he??

***jealous of trillionaire***

Kaleigh! He''d better not!!! (I say you tie him up instead...And then untie him when you get back from voting! Just in case.)

Yay!

I am totally down with those rules-no need for unnecessary high school drama when there''s this much political drama going down!

I''ll be back later-heading out to soccer right now. But it''s good to see you around these parts, surfgirl!

Oh, Freke, it''s not fun!!! DH isn''t registered, so of course he can''t vote in this election (

), but he would probably vote for McCain if he could. We have a rule at our house: we DO NOT discuss politics under ANY circumstances whatsoever!!!

I have the same problem, but fiance is more of a fiscal conservative than a social conservative, so fights aren''t so bad. Anyway, I''ve been really lucky with this election. A lot of my dear Republican friends and family are crossing over or at least considering it - including fiance!

Politics was definitely one of my "no-compromise" aspects with regards to dating. It is always hard for me to imagine how you can just "forget" about politics in a relationship because it stands for so many issues that are relevant in everyday life, including finances, social issues, educational beliefs etc ... ????

Hi, Rob!

I agree . . . a person''s politics often says a lot about who that person is in general. DH is usually not very political. (As you can probably tell from my previous post where I mentioned that he''s not even registered to vote! LOL!) We''ve been together for a little over five years now (married for a little over three years) and this is really the first time we''ve had a chance to disagree on politics. It hasn''t been too bad so far. We just agree to disagree, I guess. I do get pretty heated when it comes to politics sometimes, so I try very hard not to bring it up. If DH brings it up (which is VERY rare), I just change the subject!
