I just talked to Larry Van Craeynest for an hour. With his help, I finally narrowed my ring choices down to three. They all taper from the top to the bottom for comfort reason. The ring will be in rose gold, size 8 or 8.25.

All these rings are all so beautiful that it's really hard to make a decision...hence the poll...please vote for your favorite! Btw, Larry confirmed that he would make the ring using the die-striking method. I feel so relieved after hearing that, but saddened that the art of die-striking might be lost going forward.

First, here is everyone together --

Then, the big individual pictures are below.

#1. 456, 3mm --
This is Larry's favorite. He said the patten on this one is simple, and easy to read. It doesn't require a loupe to see all the details.

#2. 488, 3mm --
According to Larry, this one is heavier, stronger, and more detailed than #1. He said this one would require a loupe to see all the details.

#3. 558-large, 4mm, with OMC or OEC, not princess diamonds --
Larry said that OMC's and OEC's would look beautiful in this one, but I only have a picture (taken by Love In Bloom) with princess cut diamonds, so it requires a little imagination here.. It's the top one in LIB's handshot, and the right one in the pendant picture.

1 oe 3 for me.

Are you still planning for this to be a stand-alone ring? If so, I think you need the 4mm width on a size 8 finger. That last one will look much better with the OEC's. So my vote is #3 if you are wearing it alone.

My VC band is about 5mm wide on top, and I will show you a picture, but I am sorry I had on my 2mm Legacy band with it. So you'll have to imagine it alone. My finger is 5.5 for reference.

DS2006, thank you so much for the picture. Your rings look perfect on you! I was a little concerned that 4mm might be too wide, but now that I see your 5mm, it doesn't look that wide at all! And yes, this is still going to be a stand-alone ring.

What about OMC's? While I love everyone's OMC's and OEC's, I don't have one myself, so I am a bit unsure.

Glad the pic put things more in perspective for you! I just think one band at 3mm is going to not make a good stand-alone ring.

OEC's and OMC's would have been the stones the rings would have originally been made with (along with single cuts for the smaller melee). So I think it will look vastly better than it does with those princess cuts.

Oh, I didn't realize it was a stand alone. Then, it's a no brainer! The 4mm!!!

Thank you DS2006 and Gypsy!

Which cut would you prefer in #3, OMC or OEC? I like both but will have to choose one or the other..

I'd personally choose OEC's because I'd hope for more well matched stones with OEC's than OMC's. If it was being made with something like little AVC's, that would be different. However, this is all speculation since we don't know the exact stones they'd use. It would help to see them, but I doubt they'd provide that. Only a PSer would even ask!

I feel like bigger is better in this case because your finger size is larger and I like a 4mm band on my own size 8 right ring finger. So I voted three.

Thanks Dreamer_D! Now I am pretty sure I should go with #3.

Larry said he has some good source for old cut diamonds in NYC. I didn't ask for any names, but I guess it's possible that he could get AVC too.. I will ask, and see what he can get. But in any case, I will let him pick out the best three matching sparklies. :lickout:

I voted 488, but would change to 588 if I could because of the width.

I'm so excited for you that this project is underway! :appl:

Initially I would have voted for 1 or 2, but sense this is a stand alone ring then I think definitely 100% 4mm. I adore rose gold, so I can wait to see your ring when it arrives! Lots and lots of pics please!

Gorgeous choices Cookie! I seriously sat her looking at your options forever before voting... It's really hard to decide! I voted for #3 because I think 4mm might take the edge for a standalone, but I think #1 is my favorite all-around rosegold medalist! Lol, that was cheesy! :D Too much Olympics still swimming around in my head!

I can't wait to see it, and so, so happy Larry said he'll make it die-struck! I trust my jeweler but I would feel just a little better if I had spoken with him directly myself. I'd feel like I were going around her though, and I'd like to have a good relationship going forward with them. (Sorry if that makes no sense, I'm referring back to the Van Craeynest thread and my own piece being made by them with that last comment!)

Rainy, your situation makes perfect sense to me! To make you feel better, Larry did mention that they haven't delivered any cast rings so far. So your ring was definitely die-struck!

I am very excited, and cannot wait to place my order and then start a countdown timer.

I would definitely go with #3 for a stand alone ring. Its beautiful!

Of the thinner rings, I like the 2nd one better...

Stand alone - #3
Wear with your ering - #1.

Now, you could end up doing both, and is that likely, given your job/lifestyle/general ring wearing habits? If there is a more than 50% chance of you wearing it with another ring for the majority of the time (ering or stacked...) then I'd go with the thinner #1.

Enerchi, I think the chance of me stacking is really low. I rarely wear my current e-ring and wedding band together on the same finger. They are beautiful together, but just not my hand.. My fingers are short and meaty, and wearing them together make my finger look even shorter, if that makes sense..

DS2006, I spoke to Larry again about the OMCs/OECs, and realized I would have to get the 3 matching diamonds first by myself. He recommended a few dealers, including GOG. I am considering AVC and AVR, but not sure how they will look in a fairly small size, that is, 3.5mm face-up size. I think I want to put stones of the best quality into the band. However, I've never purchased a single loose diamond before, so this is going to be a daunting task. I even start to think maybe I should get platinum instead, and put 3 gorgeous precision-cut cushion rubies or blue sapphires or emeralds in it. But I think diamonds and red gold will also look very good together, hmm...decisions, decisions!

ah! then in that case, #3 it is!
