My boyfriend has asked me to let him know what engagement ring I want. I love love love the DY Capri round engagement ring, but I want him to get his money worth. I’ve looked on here for similar post but they are all 2+ years old.

I love the setting and the how close the diamonds are on the halo. Does anyone know what this is called?

I’ve seen SK’s ring but I’m just nervous that it won’t look like the DY ring.

Any suggestions? Or anyone that has had a similar DY ring custom made - may I see a picture?

HI:

Three times you said "love". Buy the ring you LOVE and want. Notwithstanding it is beautiful.

Just have them clean the fingerprint off the diamond before you buy it. A quick steaming will do.

cheers--Sharon

What’s the price of the DY setting? You can get an amazing custom one made but it will be around $4-5K. I don’t know if DY diamond markup is as high as Tiffany or Cartier but it might be worthwhile to get a superideal from a PS vendor and a custom setting

The JA setting looks very similar (especially in the photos of the completed projects the halo looks much more like the DY one with the closely spaced pave you mentioned liking).

I will say that I think I like the band of the JA ring. The DY one is a bit darker.

Question- I don’t know a lot about settings, so I’m not even sure how to describe what I like about the DY ring. The closely spaced pave means what exactly. Probably a dumb question

@jan11 no dumb questions around here! The pave on this setting is the small diamonds in the halo around the larger center stone.

Oh! Yes, I love that. Thanks for helping, this is all so overwhelming. How would describe the DY setting? or what is it called? I like that the ring is close to my finger and not popping out. I tried a Tiffany engagement ring and was not a fan.

Also, any thoughts on VC?

It would be good to know your budget and the specs you are looking for, then we can probably suggest suppliers. Btw it’s called low profile.

Did you see the ebay listing? How is it not what you need? Too small?

Budget - 15,000
Carat - 1.5
Shape - round
Cut - excellent
Color - haven’t learned enough to really say yet

Thank you!!

Too small and I’d rather have something new than preowned

Sometimes you just have to buy what you love or else you won't be completely satisfied.

There are rings where I have bought the most reasonably priced stone and setting (my darker teal sapphire) and I have been super happy and thoroughly enjoyed the item and wear it with much happiness.

However sometimes (if you can afford the item) you just have to buy what you love because nothing else will do. In 2014 I bought a yellow diamond ring from Diamonds By Lauren. My gosh I love that ring. I have no idea if I could have done better than it but I love it. I never took time to analyse it. The vendor was/is a trustworthy vendor and that ring was sublime to me. It is my masterpiece.

Ok so what you like is a cable shank four prong with halo. The cable shank is probably the toughest thing to reproduce, and you’ll be looking at a custom ring. It is always going to be cheaper to find. Pre-made design and have it customized only to your stone size. For example the Emily’s from VC is about 5k without any other customization, plus your diamond cost.

From what I can remember, DY's markup is pretty much on par with Tiffany's and Cartier.
I remember here in Canada a 1 ct would run you around $20k + depending on the setting etc.

The one you've chosen is gorgeous. I was also looking at DY settings.

Buy what you love. Forget about stats or making comparisons; if it makes you smile when you look at it, own it :D I have a ring that makes my heart feel like it's being hugged when I look at it - sounds silly but I don't know how else to describe it
