I thought I'd share my latest treasure. I picked up this custom cut oval London blue topaz and I'm planning to have it set in a white gold ring, to wear with my London blue topaz earrings. The cut is really nice

Indeed nice cutting - I am a fan of Jeff Davies and have purchased quite a few CSs from him in the past.

He has a few more stones that I would like to have. But I already have 3 other projects in the works. One is supposed to be finished this afternoon. I can't wait.

The stone arrived today. I'm probably not going to set this after all. It's much darker than it looked in the video. So dark that it actually appears black in all but the brightest light. I'm disappointed. At least it wasn't expensive.

I have a pair of lab rubies from him at the post office waiting for me - I'm a bit concerned they're also going to be darker than i hope

I haven't. I figured I'd just tuck it away in my collection. It was only $115.

I was worried it might be too dark, so I already had an alternative lined up. I commissioned a 9×7 oval medium blue sapphire from Precision Gem on the 3rd. I'll just use it instead.

If it's cost effective (not sure where he's located), I'd still try to return it and put that $ towards a new stone. Maybe you'd be happier with a swiss blue? Too bad about the darker tone with this one, because the cut is lovely.

Actually, I think I judged too quickly. I didn't think about the back of the stone being pushed down into the foam and that it might look different resting on my fingers. And it does! A lot better. I feel a little embarrassed. Lol

First photo is in direct sunlight. It was hard to photo without a glare.

The next is outdoors in the shade.

The last is indoors under LED lights. The worst possible lighting.

Thanks. It's much better than I initially thought. I'm looking at a white gold, halo semi mount for it. I know that's nothing groundbreaking design wise. Lol. But I gotta admit I like a sparkly halo.
