Cushion solitaire: cathedral or no cathedral?

Hello!
Would love your opinions on what kind of solitaire I should have made for my cushion cut stone.

Here are the stats of my stone:

6.00 x 6.40 x 3.65 mm
1.09 cts.
SI-1
Fancy Yellow

After realizing that trying to make my stone something that it's not (stop trying to make baguettes and a fishtail head happen, it's never going to happen!) I have decided to reset my mixed metal pave ring (see pic in profile) into a solitaire.

This is what I'm going for:

Brushed yellow gold with a tapered shank.

Would you keep the cathedral or nix it and just do a lil donut?

Thanks!

I love it exactly as it is! Don't take away the cathedral shank!

I love a nice cathedral setting...really showcases the stone and your setting/ring is beautiful. Not sure why you feel the need
to reset?

TY, tyty333. :)

There are some issues with my ring. Here is my original post:

There is too much metal around the diamond. It's hard to clean (I already had another jeweler cut two holes through the head for more light) and in my opinion, it's set too high. I also really love my grandma's 1950s channel set band, and they don't mesh well together, IMO.

So can they cut out the head of your ring and replace it with a lower head? Not sure if that would work because the cathedrals go
up pretty high. May need to cut those out too then it gets into major surgery.

I think you were headed down the right path looking for an antique setting that your stone would fit in and would go with your wedding
band. And like DiamondSeeker said you could have the inside lined with yellow gold. That setting you picked out above doesnt go with
your wedding band any better than the setting you currently have. I do like that setting above but I dont see how it solves the wedding
band issue.

Yeah, way too much surgery @tyty333.

I know the Jen solitaire isn't a perfect "match" with the band, but I don't need it to be matchy-matchy. It was more about the difference in look between the full cut french pave and the single cut channel band. Know what I mean?

TBH, I am over the pave look for me.
