Cushion Halo CAD Design - What Size Pave is Ideal?

Hi! We just got our first round of CAD designs and I'm looking for opinions on pave size. For background we are setting a 2ct (8.1 mm) round brilliant in a cushion halo setting. I am a size 6.75/7.

The jeweler is suggesting using 1.2 mm diamonds for the halo, band, donut and stems. Is that too small? Better to use 1.5 mm? I want a look similar to Harry Winston, Victor Canera and all of those.

If 1.2 mm diamonds are used, how thick will the setting be overall? With 1.5 mm? The setting is going to have very minimal metal.

Appreciate your thoughts!

I would go with 1.2 mm. Your jeweller should be able to answer your question as to the final overall thickness of the shank.

I had the same questions about flush vs spaced

Also recommend 1.2 as it'll add plenty of delicate sparkle without a heavy chunky look

Maybe its because its so blown up, but the diamond looks to be set pretty high. If it were mine I would ask that space in between to be smaller, but it will make the diamond look a bit bigger from the top down to have it set higher.

I think 1.2 is probably fine, though I'd probably advise against pave on the donut. It will scratch up any band you have next to it, and if you do have a band, you wont really be able to see it much.

Thanks for your feedback! I was misinformed - the pave will in fact be 1.5 mm because he felt 1.2 mm was too small and the 1.5 looked more proportioned. The overall thickness will only be 1.6-1.7 mm, so still thin! There will me minimal metal showing.

As for the diamond height, it's going to be 1-2 mm from the band to the cutlet, so I think it just looks off in this rendering and won't be sitting super high.

We gave our final approval today so a proposal will be happening very soon. I am so excited and will be sure to share the final ring when it's done!
