Hi everyone,
Just wanted to see if I could get some opinions on a cushion cut diamond I have a deposit for. It's a refundable deposit, so I can change my decision. Today I went to a local jewelry store here in Vancouver, BC, Canada to look for diamonds and settings for an engagement ring I will be needing in a few months time. I would have gone the online route (whiteflash, gog, bluenile), but I read that seeing a cushion in person is preferable. Anyways, the diamond I found was as follows:
Cushion Brilliant
5.73 mm x 5.58 mm x 3.86 mm
0.91 carat
F color
VS2 clarity
Clarity Characteristics - Feather
Polish - Excellent
Symmetry - Very Good
Fluorescence - None
66% Table
69.2% Depth
Medium - very thick (faceted)
Above from GIA
For the above diamond, is the table size too big? I had a 1 carat diamond placed beside it for comparison, and the 0.91 carat was actually bigger overall in dimensions, and that was what drew me to it in the first place. It looked bigger for it's size, and I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the larger table size.
Additionally, would this larger table size cause for the diamond to be slightly darker? The 1 carat that I was comparing to was an E color, VS2, and a "modified" cushion brilliant (don't have the other exact dimensions), which I thought looked a little brighter or reflected more if that made sense. The 0.91 when I looked straight on, looked a little darker. Or would this brightness of the "modified" cushion brilliant just be because of the type of cut, since I read that those are commonly referred to as "crushed ice"?
Sorry for all the questions, but one last! The GIA appraisal was dated October 25, 2008. Would the older appraisal date signal that this diamond has sat around for a long time without selling? Maybe others know something that I don't and skipped this diamond.
The diamond I have reserved looked really nice to me visually. The only thing that might bother me is it looked slightly darker than the 1 carat modified cushion. If I could get any advice and opinions on the above, that would be greatly appreciated!
