Hello everyone!
I’ m a longtime lurker but finally got up the currage to do a post. We are looking for an anniversary ring/forever ring. If the centerstone is big enough, almost 8 mm I would do a solitaire. Initially i wanted a cushion brilliant ( not pinfire or cruched ice type) or a large faceted cushion, the alternative being an assher cut. But looking online it seemed to me that to get this size in the fancy cuts I would have to pay a lot more. But I have also heard that cushions can face up quite nicely. Where I live I can only find rb and EC. So I can’t look at different diamonds and compare.
So I’ m asking you experts instead. Please help me. Pictures would be very nice too. Very gateful for any help:think:

i'd say it's largely dependent on your budget and the spect you would like to stay within. (color & clarity)

The idea would be the same budget, but I’ d like to know hom much smaller mm I’d get for the same price approximately.

What is your budget?

What colour do you want?
What clarity?

Color range I-H
Clarity VS2-S1, but eyeclean
Budget still not set...:saint:

You’re looking at approx 3 ct asscher, approx 2.5-3 ct cushion. Minimum budget would be around 20k. Main difference is that cushions are rectangular so you have some scope across your length and width preferences.

Adding, with a 3 ct cushion you may get a longer spread by 1-2 mm - ie: 7.5 by 9 rather than 8 by 8.

Also adding, I may have overdone your necessary sized by 1/4 of a ct or so, if you are happy with under 8mm. It’s all approximate.

Thank you so much scarsmum for all the help.
So almost 1 ct more for cushion and asscher!
I’ m ok with a little under 8 mm spread, but not much:lol:
Almost all online cushions are of the modified brilliant kind, and I want brilliant or August vintage or something like that. Also want it to be square.
Its so hard when all I have is the internet. Can’t even find any of the type of cushions I want. But I think they will look for some if one asked them. If they don’t find any at Blue Nile I’ m screwed, because I live in Europe and most online vendors vill ship directly, but Blue Nile ships througt Ireland I think.
So maybe I’ll have to go with a rb...
But I really love those cushions and asschers. Yours is gorgeous btw. Congrats! How did you buy yours?
Internet or brick an mortar store? Than you so much!

James Allen has lots of 360degree videos of the stones they are selling - have a look through and see if you can find any that you like the look of, even if they are outside your budget. That will help us look for stones that will be of interest to you.

Remember though that you are comparing a square to a round. Imagine laying a round shape over a square, the square has corners that poke out, so there’s that “extra” face size for that 8mm. Do a search through rarecarat.com and do some price comparisons. Mine is from adiamor, ordered online and picked up in Nevada, a shortish drive from California where I live and tax free via that method. Can you elaborate on your ordering problem? Is it VAT based?

Hi and thanks again!
Many online vendors don’t even ship to Scandinavia, where I live. If they do, the package goes through customs here and that can add a lot. Tried to order some backsplash tile from NY and had to scrap the idea becaus of the tax:cry2:
So Blue Nile ships to Europe more easily, they go via some place like Ireland or something. They even give the prices in euros. Otherwise I don’t feel overly confident about them...
Love GOG, because of Jonathans videos, and they seem to be able to find stones by request. But they don’t ship to Scandinavia. I’d have to fly to NYC to have a look. Is it more expensive that way, not meaning the airfare and hotel bill  Because it is a brick and mortar store. But they still sell online in the US.
Thank you for your tip!

I’d love to live in California! That is a longtime dream of mine

My favorite shape is asscher.
But they face up small for their weight because they are deep and (in a side view) both the top and bottom bulge out a lot.

Then the large facets reveal inclusions and body color more than many other shapes, so you may want to bump up the color and clarity grades.

All this means you gotta put more money into an asscher (or emerald cut) than other shapes.

IOW :cry2::cry2::cry2:

But if you can swing it they're worth it!

Yes I will definitly do that asap! Thank you!

It seems a really beautiful cut. Yes it might have to go through customs but I don’t see a problem with the actual purchase. I also think the seller may be known on pricescope.

Contacted the seller on Loupe Troupe!!!
OMG!!! I think this might be it! It looks quite substantial actually.

Just FYI note that it is an L color. That doesn’t mean that it’s not beautiful or great value, but it’s not the color you originally described.

Oh darn, I read it as an I color the picture of the cert was so bad... That changes things for me unfortunately. :cry2:

Ok well also note that it had medium blue fluorescence and I’m pretty sure there are more photos and a video of it online, but ask the seller about that. That stone really does perform beautifully.

Hi Diamondweasel

I think you should strongly consider a trip to the US. You greatly open up your option space to other great vendors not just BlueNile Europe. At the amounts you are looking to spend 20-30k USD, the cost of airfare and hotel is relatively small especially if you can make a holiday of it compared to the 24% VAT (if my Google search is correct). You need to check specifically with vendor on how they treat tax bu the prices as such don’t change just because you purchase from the store at least based on my experience with GoG and IDJ. I have lived both in Europe and Asia and purchased diamonds from the actual stores at the some as their online price and not been charged tax (GoG shipped to me in Washington DC where I was on business, IDJ still holding a stone for me while I sort out setting). You could always stay in NJ just near NYC, select something and have the vendor send to you in NJ. Just an idea

Hi,
Thank you for the idea, it confirms my thoughts that it is difficult even with online vendors who ship to Europe. It is not really in the cards right now with work to go on a trip. Would love to se NYC with the family, but the cost of that woud be high too.
But maybe going alone over the weekend...

Found this. What do you think? Would like to stay under 20k $ if possible.
This is a modified cushion, as all cushions I have found online. But some of them can look good too as long as tere is no pinfire/ crushed ice. This one caught my eye because of the ct and price. Is it a dud? What do you think? I really would prefer AVC...

I am a clarity freak :P so the inclusions in the table would bug me personally, but the faceting is quite sharp and the dark areas of obstruction should not be that dark in real life.

I just chatted with Blue Nile, the US site. The person awnsering said that all their cushions are modified and thus have crushed ice effect!
Thought there was exeptions to this rule, that not all modified cushions have pinfire/ cruched ice...

Thanks Ooshiny. But since it is a vs2 I figured it would be eye clean? I’m also a bit of aperfectionist.
Do you think it looks like it has pinfire lightreturn/ cruched ice, or does it have a little broader light return lige at leas a brilliant?:wall:

Sorry for the spelling, on my phone.

It seems to have strong facet patterns under the table but some more 'crushed ice' effect when tilted (to my eyes, at least) - neither is necessarily better or worse than the other, it is just personal taste :)although I would say that PS generally seems to favour distinct faceting over crushed ice!
