O.k.... my last try, I can''t get the crown and pavillion angles... Here is my question. I was looking on DT and it seems that Gary once gave someone the possible crown and pavilion ranges with the GIA information using a Diamond Calculator (?) and they could plug in the possible ranges. I guess knowing the depth, table and gird

le this was possible... Would this still be possible?

Also they told me that GIA only puts the crown and pavillion angles if they are bad. At what point do they start doing that? Can I assume they are within a certain range if the certificate doesn''t have these #''s?

The GIA cert says:
Table: 58
Depth: 61.9
Girdle: medium
symmetry: good
polish: good
flouresence and cullet: none

What i sometimes say is this stone could have good proportions.
This one can not.
with an ideal pavilion angle the crown will be quite steep, and vice a versa.
Crown could be 45 with pvilion of 37.5 or crown could be 28 with pavilion of 44 degrees.
keep looking.

Thanks! Thats what I wanted to know... I can't believe the jewler told me this diamond would sparkle as much or more then any other, when I told her that was my #1 concern!!

why would you think a jeweler should know everything?

I'm learning... I'm learning....

One jewler told me the closer the table and depth % are to each other, the more the diamond will sparkle? Any truth to this one? Sounds like a 60/60 fan to me....

You ar elearning - it is the exact opposite.
Smaller table needs deeper total depth.

You now know there is a lot more BS than knowledge out there

And like so many consumers - you will find it hard to buy from BS artists

What can we do to bring our trade up to profession level?

I just called and told them to take a hike without the Sarin Report. I think they almost dropped dead when they realized I knew what that was, and asked who was "blowing all this smoke in my ear"?

So cut nut, the GIA report didn't say anything about crown angles, and I read that if it was below 30 or above 35 it would be noted on the cert? Is this true?

If it is below 29 they write below 30 and if it is above 36 they write above 35

that should be bleedingly obvious

For the most part you would stay away from diamonds that have under 30 crown angle (it will note 'crown angle is under 30 degree') or over 36 etc...but my stone has a 29.9 crown angle and its VERY purty !

Shallow but pretty. So actually just by GIA not noting the warnings...does not mean that your stone is in a good range. It's not that easy!

Be sure to get Sarin #'s. Don't buy a stone without them. There are so many stones out there that you dont NEED to take that leap of faith with someone...confirm the numbers yourself by getting the Sarin. Then run it through HCA, post on here, etc. People are often only too happy to help.

Best of luck!

Try running 28 degree crown and 41.5 degree pavilions through HCA folks.
Buy them now because after GIA release their cut grade system the price will go through the roof!
