This might be the wrong place for this... but I thought I''d try!

My fiance and I are looking for ideas for creative wedding bands that reference each other somehow. We don''t need an exact match, but would prefer something more conceptually in synch than just "both are platinum". I''ll admit to wanting SOME sort of sparkle on my ring (although this is probably the best place to admit to that urge, right?) I''d also either like a wedding band that is simple/small/low (heading to medical school in the fall) OR a removable engagement ring with a simple, boring platinum wedding band. My fiance, on the other hand, doesn''t want anything too plain, but also -- of course -- doesn''t want anything too "girly." It''s a toss up as to which of us is pickier!

As a reference point, I''ve got my parent''s very cool wedding rings in the back of my head. My dad''s is a yellow gold replica of an intricate boat rope, while my mom''s is sort of strands of yellow gold woven around two pieces of jade. Each is very much suited to them, yet they go together beautifully as a set as well.

Here are some ideas we''ve come up with so far:

- "Puzzle" rings that fit into one another somehow -- this was our first idea and seems neither practical nor pretty
- A ring with diamonds for me and a band with the "imprint" of those diamonds for him
- An engagement ring with a "crown" motif holding the diamond, and that motif, doubled so it''s thicker, on his band
- Something referential like these Niwaka rings (my favorite idea at the moment):

I''d really appreciate any thoughts, and will post pics of our final bands if anyone''s interested!

ooo, I like the one''s you posted a lot..

Me too, I really like those. In fact, I wish they matched my ering. :)

Hi Sparkygalore,

What a neat idea! I have a friend at work who did this. They both have the same ring, only his is bigger and much thicker and heavier, while hers is just a smaller more dainty version. They both are like a catherdral style ring, with a bezel set diamond, and his is a satin finish while hers has engraving.

I really love the Niwaka line. I love the fluid flow. I just wished that the rings would hold a center diamond bigger than a half a ct. But in Japan it is very expensive, and a luxury to have a center diamond over .50 ct. My cousins have very small diamonds compared to western standards.

Have you thought have some rings custom made?

Good luck on your search, and keep us updated.

Have a wonderful weekend!

get the Niwaka ones!
Those are beautiful - I love rings that aren''t straight across and almost bought an ering like that. I really like the ones that you have picked.

We''re almost definately getting custom rings, and would use the Niwaka ones more for ideas. We happen to have a real affection for the guys at Little King in New York, so will be calling them once we have our ideas more set. The nice thing about that is we can be really creative and picky!

Just a quick plug for Little King -- they''re awesome in there! We wandered in once to buy a $40 locket, and ended up spending an hour looking at every gem and stone they had in the place. When we''re back in the NY, we tend to swing by just to check out the new stock and chat, so we''ve been pretty sold on using them ever since we started talking marriage.

Have you seen the carved Tacori platinum bands? They have them for men and for women, and they''re beautiful.

I responded to a similar post http://www.sora-w.com/ in the "design" section that shows interlocking designs and really interesting finishes. We tried them on, but prefered the Niwaka ones in the end.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Niwaka!!

That said, how about something like this

Hello sparky,
I Adore the Niwaka rings that you posted! let us know when you choose.

Wow, cardesigner, I just checked this thread again, and those Studio Sora rings are so creative! They actually succeed in doing all the crazy "puzzle" type things we thought would never look good. Thanks for the link!

Sadly, Wren, the fiance says "Not manly enough." Funny coming from one of the least stereotypically manly men I know...

We''ve got a slight wrench in our plans though, mainly that we went to browse rings at our local jewelry store and they put a five stone ring on me and I drooled. So the Niwaka-style small-bling rings might be out. We''re looking into whether we can afford the diamond part of a graduated five stone, and if so, will be working on cool referential designs. So, sorry to most likely not be posting Niwaka pictures in the future! But thank you for all the help so far.

I love my 5 stones wedding band too. I think DH's w-band goes well my w-band. The only reference to each other is diamond tho. Just to give you idea.

Just to follow-up: we''ve got a week till the wedding, but we ended up going with a vine theme on both rings, in palladium from the fantastic Little King Jewelry in New York. The diamonds are from Good Old Gold, who were also a delight to work with. I''m delighted with the rings, and think Little King did a great job making them referential but not too matchy! I can''t wait till these are on our fingers :)

Sparkygalore-
I just wanted to say that your rings look AMAZING!! We used Little King for our engagement ring...and in palladium as well. We were THRILLED with their work product! I am planning on using them again for our bands. Can you take some close-up pictures of
the rings for us? We''re still trying to decide what to do!
