Craiglist Find... What do you think?

Well I asked what the cut, polish, and symmetry were, and the appraiser said that he couldn''t determine that because it is not certified. I also asked if it had any carbon spots, and whether or not it was an eye-clean stone (waiting to hear back now). I guess I''m figuring that its probably not an ideal cut stone but I could always have it recut later, but only if its eye-clean.

Sounds like your vote is for letting it go...

that sounds like a total crock - the appraiser cannot determine anything about the cut, polish, or symmetry? so, if he had a certificate he could read it like the rest of us!!!! Ugh... is this your appraiser or hers?

The laser would be a deal breaker for me...but what about these stones--they''d look AMAZING and the sparkle would porbably make them have as much neck presence (or more) than the craigslist diamond even though they are a little smaller...)

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/diamond-details/?product_id=24769111 (I''d get this one b/c I''m cheap and it will look like a really nice in a bezel:-)

FWIW-I have a .412 BGD K SI1 signature in a bezel and it is a great size. If budget were no option I''d probably go up to somewhere between a .6 and a .9 in a bezel, but I porbably won''t ever change this pendant b/c I love it and the price difference is not worth it to me right now.

Thank you, Thank you Bella!! All of those stones look great, except that I have never seen a J or K in person, and I''m not sure how color sensitive I would be to them. I have a .6 CZ bezel pendant (I know I''m a terrible PSer) and I do rather like the size... I think that those 3 stones are great options, but I would need to see a J/K in person first...

I can tell you that an ideal cut stone in a J/K color will look better than a "G/H" good cut stone

I've been a horrible, horrible PSer and have not posted pics of my now not so recent 5 stone and pendant purchases. I'll try and do that this weekend so that you can get a sense. I can photograph my K pendant against my F earrings...all are ideal cut. But, if you go through PS threads I think that several people posted color comparisions of their own jewelry.

I find ideal cut Js to still be blazing white and Ks range from blazing white to just barely antique white. I LOVE my K and saved a bundle on it. On my neck it just looks white and sparkly. If I wanted to scrutinize it, I can tilt it to the side in certain lighting and it looks sort of antique white, but that's only from the side or from the back.

Again, on your neck all you see is white and sparkly:-)

you can also go to Jared and see if they have any J or K peerless diamonds in stock...

KerriLynn - I''m not sure if you''ve definitely passed on the diamond from Craigslist but I just wanted to chime in and say any appraiser or seller grading a diamond as an SI3, means their understanding of grading is somewhat limited and I wouldn''t ever say that this stone would be an SI2 (otherwise it would have been appraised as such) and is much more likely to be an I1. Lasered diamonds are not expensive so whilst you might be able to buy a bigger diamond for your money, I would be concerned about long term stabiliy issues further down the line.

If you''re concerned about colour sensitivity why don''t you look at diamonds with fluorescence? I have an I coloured diamond that I thought would show some hint of yellow but it has strong blue fluor and actually in virtually all lighting conditions it looks incredibly white and holds its own against my other diamonds. Definitely worth thinking about if you want to keep cost down.

I have several eye clean secondhand SI2's and I1's from ebay that I got for a song and look unbelievable, mostly old cuts. I like the added buyer's protection on ebay vs craigslist. But if you are seeing it in person and liking it, just decide what it is worth to you!
