I recently received a .96 carat round family stone and had it set into a 18K white gold bezel pendant with an 18 inch WG cable chain.
I had done some internet research, gotten internet quotes including a quote from Whiteflash, and also a jeweler in NY becuse I thought I had originally wanted a tension set pendant.
However, my mom (who was paying) only felt comfortable dealing with a local jeweler. She went to someone who they have used in the past to reset her e-ring, and do various repairs and appraisals. They have always been honest and pleasureable to deal with.
The pendant is very similar to the blue nile one that they sell for $275 (the bezel with the "mickey mouse" ears, cable chain). However, it is on a chain that is thicker. I'm not sure, but I think it might be something like 3.1mm... I vaguely remember reading that on a slip somewhere. I'll check and post back, but let's just say that's how thick it is.
When my mom originally went there, she was quoted approximately $600, and told them to go ahead and do it. She felt it was reasonable.
However, she went to pick it up today, and was told that the total came to close to $1000 for the bezel setting and the chain. And that the $600 was just for the bezel, which I am pretty sure was ordered from a catalog.
I am happy with it. It looks BEAUTIFUL. But I can't help feeling terrible becuase this was WAY MORE expensive than what was originally intended.
I am also wondering if this was a reasonable cost... it seems expensive compared to the quotes I received and especially the cost of the blue nile pendant. (Not considering the tension setting quotes, of course).
Is there something that I might not be aware of that could have increased the cost? Anyone have any insight I might be missing out on?
