Alright, I am coming directly to the experts for this... I am considering selling my Diamond to upgrade to a larger stone, rather than just resetting. Hubby made it clear there will be no other changes after this one, so I am looking at and exploring my options... I am just worried that prices have skyrocketed in the last 4 years so much, that I may not get much more than I already have? I have, I believe, a pretty coveted commodity (ok, I am biased :naughty: ) a 2.50 ct, OMB, J, VS1. The spread is pretty generous too, at 8.67 x 7.53, GIA. I have already reached out to Grace at Jbeg and Adam at Old World Diamonds (for purchase,) and am waiting to hear back... what is the current market value for this, any experts care to speculate what I should be considering? I've been trying to research, but it's all over the board... I want SIZE! I don't want to go lower than a J, but am flexible in going to an eye-clean SI1 or 2... I know these beautiful stones exist!! My next option is to hang on to my current stone and halo it, which, would still be stunning... I've added a picture, I do not have an asset, just to give you a gist...

I purchased from Mark at BE, and his policy is 50% of the original purchase price, which sort of gets me right where I am at... not worth going this route.

That's beautiful and if you could hang onto it and then get another in a few years for an anniversary, then you'd have two great rings!

But if you want to try to sell, you certainly can try consignment. In addition to the ones you already contacted, I would add Love Affair Diamonds because Erica has very low consignment fees especially on items of higher value. Just do some comparing, because once you list the stone, you can post it on the Pre-loved forum here, and you'll have exposure to anyone who reads the PS pre-loved forum regardless of who you consign with.

Diamond prices went way up in 2011 and have been pretty stable the last couple of years. So it would be wise to get an updated appraisal on your diamond or else just have your consignment jeweler help you value it. Ideal cut stones can bring in the realm of 80% of current value, and antique stones sold second hand might vary widely depending on how great the stone is.

DS, I like the way you think! :naughty:

Trulove, you have gorgeous ring! I agree with DS In terms of getting an updated appraisal or valuation. It sounds like you already started moving forward by contacting JBEG & OWD. Hopefully you can get an idea of whether it is a good time to upgrade or not based on their recommendations. I would absolutely post it in the preloved area if you do consign. It's a fabulous ring!

Thank you so much, Ladies! Do you think it is worthwhile sending it to a PS appraiser, or does a local work just fine? I am curious to see what it may be worth, and just as you both said, see if it is even worth selling!

Um...first your ring is gorgeous! But you've been bitten by DSS! It can't hurt to weigh all of your options now can it? :Up_to_something:
If "bigger" is your primary goal, haloing your present stone would most likely be the most budget friendly and definitely give you that finger presence. Consigning is a good way to go, but the unknown is how long it takes to sell at how much and then finding another stone that fits your criteria, and how to set that...
Good luck sorting it all out! I hope you find your dream ring.

Nice looking cushions are getting harder and harder to find esp in the GIA J or higher range and even rarer in the bigger carat weights. If I were you, I'd wait to see if there was a suitable cushion to upgrade to before relenquishing yours.

Thank you, and this is why I'm struggling!!!

ROL- definitely good point...thx!

Wow what a beauty - I agree maybe try a halo reset - the current side stones seem to distract the from the main event - but still what a gorgeous ring
