I''m a newbie shopping for an engagement diamond for my girlfriend. Her brother is good friends with a diamond dealer in Belgium who is offering a diamond with the following HRD grading. I''m OK with the color and clarity. However, according to the pricesope''s cut adviser, this stone only offers fair to good visual performance. Price is nearly $9K USD. Is this a fair price or not so good? Thanks.

Shape Round
Carat 1.17
Color F
Measurements 6.68 - 6.75 mm x 4.24 mm
Purity VS1
Proportions Very Good
Finish Grade Very Good
Girdle Medium 3.5% Faceted
Culet Pointed
Table Width (%) 59
Crown height (%) 15
Pavilion Depth (%) 45
Fluorescence Nil

The depth is 63%. A bit deepish but not the kiss of death. Overall, it is in line with Pricescope selling prices. The width of the girdle att 3.5% may be a bit thickish although it also says "medium". A medium culet is sort of okay, but not the usual today, either.

I suggest you do a Pricescope search yourself and you''ll find many, many competiting listings to guide you further.

A 45% pavilion?
I don''t think it''s a good friend.

Thanks for the quick feedback. I was feeling uneasy about this purchase, especially since the seller repeatedly ignored my requests for a digital copy of the HRD certificate. Most dealers I''ve inquired offer GIA certificates for viewing even without being asked.
