Confused about ASET and Idealscope images

Hi

I have recently purchased a diamond, which I am happy with, but I'm a bit curious about the ASET and Idealscope images below. There seems to be some light leakage from the pavilion and I don't know what would cause this.

The diamond is a 1.59 ct stone with the following proportions:

Table: 56.5%
Depth: 61.3
Crown: 15% 34.5 degrees
Pavillion: 43% 40.8 degrees
L:W = 1.001

It seems pretty much perfect from the above measurements, and I like the stone a lot. I'm just curious.

To clarify, I can't see any light leakage with my own eyes, it's just showing on the ASET and Idealscope.

Images look good. There may be some marginal leakage at 5:00, but doubtful that you'd see anything noticeable in real life situations.

Hi. Thank you for your reply! You are right, I can't notice anything with the naked eye - it's a really sparkly stone!

I just wondered what might cause the leakage given how good the proportions and measurements are. It's puzzling me a bit.

Crown and pavilion angles are averaged across the 8 facets. Crown is then reported at nearest 5 degree angle and pavilion is reported at nearest
0.2 degree angle. I believe all the averaging and reporting to nearest degrees can hide ever so slight leakage (very little). I believe others more
knowledgeable than I have stated it will not be visible to the average consumer (or even more experienced consumers).

Edit...more info can be found here...

With everyone else, it's nothing major and nothing you or anyone else come to that is going to notice in real life. This effect appears in both images so I'd imagine it's a very slight discrepancy in the cut precision, as Ty mentions quite possibly one of the tiny sections of the diamond is not cut to quite the same precision of the others. Nothing to worry about, nothing you'll ever see, it's minutiae - but interesting and worth discussion nevertheless.:))

Thank you for your replies! I don't notice any leakage in person, and I'm really happy with my diamond. I can't stop looking at it. View attachment 623397

Greetings Daytona,

To detail precisely what it is you're seeing it's not actually "blatant" light leakage. You're actually critically observing areas under the table that are reflecting light more intensely vs less intensely (depicted between the light vs dark reds). This however isn't something that can be seen under human observation unless those areas were just plain white which would be blatant leakage and observed in diamonds when the pavilion drops >41 degrees when coupled with those crown angles. Only instruments like photospectrometers might pick up the differences but bear in mind ... our stereo scopic vision isn't identical to a monochromatic camera under controlled lighting conditions.

The cause of the light red/dark red areas is due to the pavilion/crown facets azimuth angles. Ie. those angles of the diamond which are cut in an east/west orientation as opposed to the north/south orientation. The more in alignment the azimuth angles are, the more of a perfect reflector image you'll get. Here's when you pump up the aperture and rez. Both are Ideal Cut and both are gorgeous diamonds.

Thank you Rhino, that is really helpful!

Lorelei. I'm trying to get a good one, but the lighting is terrible in my office. I'll post something asap!

This is about the best one I can get at the moment. I have a red dress on - hence the slight pinky hue! 20180418_221030.jpg

Absolutely beautiful, gorgeous ring!

Ah thank you - I do love it. It's so sparkly but it's difficult to get a photo that captures the sparkle!

Wow @DaytonaG , it's beautiful!! Congrats (and more pics?)
