Now they are going to have Jay who, at most, has what...5-10 years left?
Try 5-10 months ... or weeks. Its going to be awful. The public sentiment is so much on Conan''s side ... even amongst Jay''s old viewership. He looks like a cranky old bully kicking a bunny.

I hope Conan can go out B-I-G ... and get back on the air quickly. NBC might be trying to keep him off the air for 3.5 years. (TOOLS! All of them!) I will support an NBC boycott if they pursue that. And I''m a big Office/30 Rock fan. Eh, I''ll live.
Just talking about his actual working career...in 10 years he''d be at retirement age, wouldn''t he? Maybe I''m miscalculating...

Jay is definitely going down in the history books. The letterman/leno thing was bad enough, but people could take either side. This puts Jay solidly in the selfish, bully camp.

Oh Jay. Tsk tsk.

FWIW ... I *don''t* think Leno *actually* kicked the bunny. Just that it LOOKS like that. NBC is throwing him under the bus also. Leno didn''t LEAVE ''The Tonight Show'' FOR that prime time disaster. He was FIRED BY NBC. NBC BOOTED HIM. All the people saying he''s an indian giver ... HE isn''t, NBC is.

HOWEVER -- I do think he should bow out GRACEFULLY. And hire a better PR person to get the real story out there because he is losing all sympathy QUICKLY.
True Deco, but the bottom line is he doesn''t have to do the 11:35 show. He could have been classy and said, sorry, that''s the tonight show and that''s conan''s.

Let''s take the awesome phrase i heard "Zuck Up" global!

Gosh you really Zucked Up with that new haircut. It Zucks!

Don''t be such a Zuck Up!

Jeff Zucker has failed his way to the top and anything that could be done to publicly humiliate him: I''m all for.

I''ve heard this as well. But don''t you think it''s kicking the bunny a little bit to agree to take the tonight show back knowing that Conan will be out of a job?

P.S. NBC is denying it....so either TMZ is wrong or NBC is trying to think of good excuse!

Team Conan for me all the way. And that''s not only because he got totally "Zucked" over, but us redheads have to stick together!

According to this link, Zucker is threatening to keep Conan off the air for the next 3.5 years.

We all agree that the NBC execs are a bunch of boobs, but I don't agree for one second that Leno is just an innocent observer. His silence speaks volumes to me--quietly waiting to steal the Tonight Show back which shows him to be no more than an extension of Zucker. Yes he was pushed off the Tonight Show initially (and boy did he make it known over the slow 6 years it took to hand over the reins) but this still doesn't explain or justify his inability to know when his time is up--he's like that annoying person who never leaves the party! The execs are scared to lose him in case he goes to Fox and kicks Conan's butt (not that this would happen) which is why Leno is the only logical party involved to stop this madness. Yet he stays silent. He doesn't need the money, this is clearly not helping his image or his pride so what is it? I've watched both monologues this week and Conan's stuff is better than ever--a good comedian takes a bad situation and turns it into comedic gold. Leno meanwhile is flat footed and relying on the same boring formula.

I used to feel indifferent about Leno..but now will never watch the Tonight Show should he steal it back.

PS I'd forgotten about the Letterman debacle in the 90's--once again Leno swooped in rather than wait his turn.

OMG he can't do that can he?? I didn't read the link. My computer is being wonky so am not opening links till it's fixed.. God that would suck for him. I would imagine public outrage and public outcry would be enough for him to release him? I dunno, I defer to Deco...

Love it! TGAL et al, let''s copyright the "Team Conan" or "Conan got Zucked Over" phrase and make our millions selling Tshirts.

Here''s the info on the link from the Huffington Post. I have no idea how reliable it is, though:

Nikki Finke reports that NBC Universal boss Jeff Zucker — widely seen as the one to blame for the late night mess NBC finds itself in — has threatened to keep Conan O''Brien off the air for three-and-a-half years if he does not accept the network''s offer to host the "Tonight Show" at 12:05.

Finke, citing insiders, reports that Zucker has taken "a super tough threatening position" with O''Brien''s representatives:

To counter O''Brien''s principled public statement which the late night host issued this week, Zucker "is threatening to ice Conan", according to his reps. "Zucker said, ''I''ll keep you off the air for 3 1/2 years.'' Which doesn''t have a chance in hell of happening. What I really think Zucker wants is to hold him off the market for at least six months to a year until the dust settles and Leno is secure and Conan is squelched." One of the reps even compared Zucker to "Darth Vader" because the NBCU chief "has been so evil" about this.

TMZ reported Wednesday that Conan''s contract doesn''t actually specify the 11:35 PM timeslot.

Finke further reports that "it has now become clear to O''Brien''s reps that Zucker wants to jettison Conan altogether and put Jay back at The Tonight Show at its usual starting time." She describes the idea of keeping Conan off the air for the duration of his contract as "dastardly" and "cowardly" and says "it could be damn effective."

Kimmel got Leno pretty good last night..it''s a bit long

heh, I thought it was funny on both sides. And Jay is no dummy. He didn''t invite him on without expecting some barbs (and he set himself up for a few there as well.) One thing Jay DOES know is how to be self-deprecating.

It really is a shame that Conan didn''t get the chance. Geez, I remember when the dumb network execs wanted Jay to appear more hip and happenin'' and made him wear T-SHIRTS underneath his suit jackets. I looked and it and thought, WTH? Wonderful Miami Vice period, that was....

Another Conan lover here--he cracks me up! Jay just kind of annoys me. I like Letterman, though.

Jeff Zucker is an idiot. He actually thought this would be a good move? I agree with whoever (whomever?) essentially said that while Jay might not have been behind it, the right thing for him to do would be to bow out.

When Jay started his new show I watched 1 episode - and parts of a few others. It was obvious to me that it was a wrong match. It was also obvious that he was canibalizing the Conan show.

I think Jay should have been done a once a week show - and I think he could have made that sizzle.

Now both shows are going to go down the tubes at NBC. Jay will never be able to rebuild the Tonight Show.

Especially not now that public opinion has swayed so far against him. I think that if he takes over the Tonight Show he will have irreparably damaged his image. I know I''ll never watch it.

My coworker and I were talking about this same thing!

That show was on the primetime lineup. Most other stations have a different show for each day of the week. Having this show every day is what killed it IMO.

Leno is definitely a player in this fiasco. Zucker didn''t want Conan to bolt when his last contract was up. Coco had other offers and NBC didn''t want him to become a competitor so that''s why they gave Conan the guarantee of the Tonight Show in 2009. In exchange for that promise, he passed up other opportunities and waited 5 years. If Jay wasn''t okay with retiring from the Tonight Show in 2009, he should have said so 6 years ago! NBC would have had to choose right then and each of the guys could have had a show at 11:35. And if Jay still wanted an 11:35 slot, he shouldn''t have taken the 10:00 primetime show and then keep saying he''d like to go back to late night. He should have just gone to another network. Leno had two chances to avoid this mess, and he didn''t take either one of them. He''s as much to blame as anyone. This is the guy who during the negotiations over who would succeed Johnny actually stooped to hiding in a closet at NBC so he could hear what was being said at a meeting. Pathetic.

As for Conan, he really got zucked over. I love that phrase!

Agree rainwood!

Conan has made it clear (and still does during his monologue) that he's ok with staying on if they leave him at 1135! How can Jay literally steal that opportunity away from him due to a royal zuck up by the executives! Isn't he embarrassed to be coming back when it's his own failures and rating bombs that led to this?

From what I've read, almost all comics are ripping Leno a new one (via Tweets or monologues, or in Kimmel's case as a guest) and in some cases it's just b/c he's the jerk in this whole situation, but in many others it's because at one time or another Leno screwed them over too (Letterman, Rosie O'Donnell..).

if conan has to go back to 12:30 I''d put him after letterman - now THAT would be a lineup!!

Leno has confirmed he''s going back to 1130. This guy reallly irritates me now--he''s not just "going back", he is stealing the Tonight Show from Coco! Conan''s one request was to stay at 1130..I love how Jay is trying to spin reality and insinuate that it came down to Conan''s ratings. Uh no, after 7 months there is no real time to develop an audience not to mention the only one with abysmal ratings leading to cancellation was Jay! Can''t wait tilll Conan gets a new gig so he can bury Jay!
