completely totally agree
I may be biased though as I had a HUUUUUGE crush on conan in 6th grade lol

I''m not a late night tv watcher but I agree and I think Conan is truly a class act. The Tonight Show is an institution. NBC should not mess with it.

Poor Conan (see link below on him refusing the later slot)! I''ve been a fan of his since he debuted in ''93 and I was a junior in colllege. Conan and junk food at 2am is what got me through all that procrastinated work that was due in 8 hours! Leno needs to do the right thing and step aside in my opinion. What do you think?

http://marquee.blogs.cnn.com/2010/01/12/conan-releases-statement-on-late-night-situation/
Yup. Grrrrr I''m so angry for him!

He moved his family all the way across the country to be treated like THAT?!

I''ve always been a Leno fan (don''t ask me why). Nothing against Conan...he seems a class act, as other said. And now I have to say tsk tsk to Jay...he should know better after all the commotion when he wanted to take over the show.

And of course, there''s the network idiots. Behind any corporation are a bunch of boneheads making knee jerk reactions to number (in this case, ratings). No one ever thinks long term....

I thought this was great when I read it today! Kudos for Conan for being scrupulous. I certainly hope this is a positive for his career!

DH and I were just talking about this. NBC is crazy, but so is Leno. He knew that he was throwing a wrench in the late night line up when he decided he would go along with the move.

Kudos to Conan. He was just getting into the swing of a new show and then BAM! We''re huge Conan fans so I''ll be interested in how this plays out.

"The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn’t the Tonight Show."

A bit ditto to this. He is handling it well and I appreciate his honesty in describing the situation to his fans.

Oh and in case anyone is wondering why Conan has a following, it''s typically because of comments like this:

"Have a great day and, for the record, I am truly sorry about my hair; it''s always been that way."

LOL!!!

I''m on Team Conan all the way. Leno doesn''t do it for me at all and I think Conan has a much brighter future, ratings and advertising $ wise. It''ll be interesting to see what happens, though.

Another vote for Team Conan!

I''ve never forgiven NBC for how they treated Letterman and how Leno connived his way into the Tonight Show job in the first place. That NBC would bobble the transition AGAIN is mind-boggling. Jeff Zucker needs to be fired ASAP. Plus, I''ve always thought Leno was lame so l''d be on Team Coco regardless. But I still think the best duo in late night is Dave followed by Craig Ferguson. I just wish they''d put Craig on earlier. He cracks me up.

Ditto TGal...I've never been a big Conan fan, I can take him or leave him. But I'm definitely NOT a fan of messing with contracts. Conan deserves what he was promised, NBC should have stuck to its word.

Yeah, this is crazy...Conan is pretty classy...

I love Conan. What the heck is going on at NBC???

The thing is, Jay gave up the coveted time slot, so he shouldn''t be able to get it back just because his new show isn''t doing well. I don''t think anyone thought it would do well, but the decision to move Jay was made. Dumb idea, but whatever. What''s done is done. It''s not fair to Conan (or Jimmy Fallon) for Jay to get his old job back. Conan has every right to be upset. I don''t know that I blame Jay though (I hope he''s not the one trying to get Conan to move). It''s the programming and the head(s) of the network that I blame.

According to TMZ, NBC just struck a new deal with Leno and he will be returning as host for the tonight show. I know I, for one, will not be watching. Conan''s last show is suspected to be Jan 22.

How awful. I was really holding out hope that NBC would do the right thing.

Wow that''s awful

oh that makes me furious

I wonder what conan will do since his contract doesn't have a specified time slot? I've heard that this will be considered breaking his contract if he doesn't go back to the old time slot and thus will get not paid anything

<--- Not watching Leno.

Yes but his contract DID specify the "Tonight Show". And clearly NBC was willing to break that to get their precious Leno back.

I wish I could say I couldn''t believe it, but I can. I''m mad. I was a Leno fan, but this BS is too much. Conan''s a funny guy, and he didn''t get a chance to really show what he could do with the show. It''s Leno that should be out on his butt. He took a chance and it flopped. Let him suffer.

Oh I thought they were still going to call it ''The Tonight Show'' and just have it on later? I must have missed something lol

Yeah Smurf, they were talking about doing that, but then Conan said no way. So I guess NBC just decided to give Jay the show altogether. So ridiculous.

I''ll def be interested in seeing Conan''s next move.

Conan loved the show enough to say he''d let it go if they switched the time on him (since it would no longer be the "Tonight" show)--he should remain the host for that reason alone.

Princesss -- you said it so much better than I did. Jay took a chance and it flopped. I like him but I don''t like how any of this played out.

Agreed!

How embarrassing for Leno. No one likes an indian giver.

I agree with Zoe and Princesss.

Ditto. Leno''s been there, done that. If anything, Conan has showns this week of what kind of stuff he''s made. And people are really watching Conan now. This is a mistake...they need to build a show that will be solid for years. They could have had an edge up once Conan really got going and Dave retired. Now they are going to have Jay who, at most, has what...5-10 years left?

Short. Sighted.

Try 5-10 months ... or weeks. Its going to be awful. The public sentiment is so much on Conan''s side ... even amongst Jay''s old viewership. He looks like a cranky old bully kicking a bunny.

I hope Conan can go out B-I-G ... and get back on the air quickly. NBC might be trying to keep him off the air for 3.5 years. (TOOLS! All of them!) I will support an NBC boycott if they pursue that. And I''m a big Office/30 Rock fan. Eh, I''ll live.

FWIW ... I *don''t* think Leno *actually* kicked the bunny. Just that it LOOKS like that. NBC is throwing him under the bus also. Leno didn''t LEAVE "The Tonight Show" FOR that prime time disaster. He was FIRED BY NBC. NBC BOOTED HIM. All the people saying he''s an indian giver ... HE isn''t, NBC is.

HOWEVER -- I do think he should bow out GRACEFULLY. And hire a better PR person to get the real story out there because he is losing all sympathy QUICKLY.
