those are all quite nice. well done!
i think i like the first one the best.

Thanks. Now all I have to do is find a setting to put it in. ;-) Any particular reasons that one strikes you most? I''m thinking the idealscope is best of the three, and the value is pretty good, comparably speaking. But I am quite naive in this arena.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

yes, the idealscope on the first one is great. ...the numbers are good...the color is good...the clarity is good...
everything is working together for the first one! it looks like a great stone.

you really did quite well!

what kind of settings are you thinking about? i love a princess set with more channel set princess on the sides

Oh I agree that 1st one is awesome. Great job!!!

Being brand new, you did well

On all of these stones I don''t love the variations in the girdle (or the thickness), but other than that there is nothing glaring that you should be concerned about.

I agree with the others that stone #1 is the best. With #3 the very thin girdle concerns me as they are prone to chipping, and the second diamond''s symmetry is not to my liking. So, I would listen to Belle and Kaleigh and go with #1!

As for diamonds, I am not an expert.
For settings, have you thought about a solitaire like Researcher''s? That ring is one of my faves! I''m also in love with the Vatche settings particularly the X prong which they make for Princess. Kaleidoscopic also has a beautiful Princess setting with side baguettes, a really classic and elegant look.
Congrats on your upcoming engagement!

Thanks. You people are awesome. Glad I stumbled upon this site. I was researching and stuff before but had no direction. That idealscopic stuff in particular is outstanding.

I think I''m going with a platinum setting with princess sidestones. It''s one of the ones she suggested. I also like the look. I like the look of some classical stuff too, but she wouldn''t go for that (engravings and such).

I might peep some more settings this weekend, but I have to move on this. Plan to ask her early January.

Thanks again, all, for your help.

Grr. The James Allen woman didn''t get my email this morning, apparently, that I sent on Friday, ''cause that first Princess was just sold today. How disappointing! She''s researching similar diamonds now. And here I thought my e-ring shopping woes were over!

The woman located the following diamond as a similarity, though I don''t think it''ll be comparable since they don''t even list it with their ideals.

1.01
H
VS1
GIA
Depth: 73.4%
Table: 70%
EX/VG
No Flourescence
$4122.00

No other info yet.

Oh, and she eventually located the email I sent her. Just happened to be too late, I suppose. I need a beer. I loathe shopping.

How ''bout this one?

Shape: Princess

Certificate: GIA
Depth: 76.1%
Table: 72%
Polish: Excellent - Ideal

Girdle: Medium

I hadn''t included SI in my search before. For some reason, was shying away from those. Any thoughts on this one?

did someone say beer?

the idealscope on that one looks nice, but i would find out about how eyeclean it is. it looks like there is a fairly good sized cloud that could be the clarity grader right smack in the middle of the table.

I wound up going with the one above. Faces up beautifully. She was astounded. Put it in a nice platinum band with three princesses per side. Thanks everyone for your help. She was thoroughly pleased.

Having purchased it from JamesAllen.com, it took a little while to get in. Unfortunately, she overheard a conversation I had on the phone one day (I didn''t think she was home) and found out I had purchased it. At that point, she was expecting the proposal any day. So I had to a) disappoint her by making her wait a couple weeks, and b) come up with a creative way to propose since she was poised and "ready" for it. I did well, suffice it to say. DJ

Congratulations! Please try to post some pictures of the ring! We''d love to see it!
