I have to make a decision on this pair first thing tomorrow morning. Could you please provide any feedback based on the pictures and the cert #''s. There is a separate post for each of the diamonds.
Sounds like a nice pair. Honeslty, I would drop clarity to SI 1 or SI 2 and GHI color- I feel it's a better value for earrings, since the stones won't be observed very closely... Or so I hope!
Anyway, these 2 stones are nice candidates... One thing I don't love about stone #1 is the H&A pattern --the hearts are pretty uneven in size.
I totally agree with Giangi on this. You may want to consider a drop down in color and/or clarity for a price savings and/or larger stones, especially for earrings. Plus, with ideal cuts, the stones face up beautifully white, with most of them offering tremendous fire, brilliance and scintillation. Once the diamonds are set and sitting on the ears, color is not so much of an issue, and this is the case more so with clarity. Rings are a different story since color and inclusions can be picked up by the naked eye much more readily.
GoodOldGold has a few options in their H&A search engine. Jonathan has a matching pair of 0.79 F SI1s for $6892 (full service price), about $700 less than the guesstimated $7584 that you will be paying for this pair that you posted here. Most SI1s are eye clean (you would need to check with your vendor on that and GOG is well known for their honesty on this
). So for the price savings you may want to consider this pair, if they are still available for sale. With the GOG pair (which scores beautifully on the HCA, btw), you’ll be getting the colorless grading you seek (and the naked eye is more likely to pick up on color than clarity) while saving money on the lower clarity grade.
Well, I initially (about 1.5 months back) started by looking at VVS1 and then dropped a grade into the VS category. Unfortunately, that is the lowest I can go due to the cultural issues.. Its been surprisingly difficult to get a good pair in this carat range (apparently a severe lack of inventory) and this is the best set I have so far.
Linda, your "guesstimate" on the price is right on thanks to the price transparency over the internet I guess.. Given that the ideal cut is still a range, do these specs fall within the "sweet spot" of that range? There are still those couple of dark areas in the IS picture indicating loss of light. But, with HCA scores of less than 2 on both, the room for further "improvement" is very marginal I suppose..
Thanks for your post as I now understand your parameters for the clarity. Only the pavilion angle and the table on the second stone meet the sweet spot ranges (34-34.5 for the crown , 40.7-40.9 for the pavilion and 55-56 for the table) but as you know from the HCA scores, it is a combination of all the factors working in tandem that produce beautiful stones.
It is a shame that there is currently a limited supply of stones out there that meet your parameters because if the clarity issue is a concern for you, then I would imagine that a stone with a smaller cut heart would also be a factor in your decision. Although, again, it will sit as an earring and should not be that noticeable once resting in the ear, but perhaps just knowing of its inherent flaw may bother you. If you are not tied to a special occasion deadline, you may want to wait to see what the next listing of inventory brings in. Sometimes finding your ideal stones can be a matter of patience and timing, whether your requirements be an eye clean SI2 or a matched pair of perfectly cut, VS diamonds.
Otherwise, this looks like the diamond pair of the moment!
Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Hope this helps and please keep us posted.
Kindest regards always,
Linda
