Hi people, I'm looking to by my gf an engagement ring and I think she wants a 3 stone ring with a large center pear and two small side pears. I am clueless about this stuff! Can you post some pictures of similar rings and what sizes the stones are? I'm looking at side stones that are .66 tcw from danforth diamonds online, and am thinking of either a 1.5 or 2 ct center pear. I'm wondering if the 2ct center pear would be overwhelming and the 1.5 would be better?? This is the diamond I am looking at http://www.danforthdiamond.com/diamond-details/?product_id=3395418
I would rather get a larger diamond then something flawless, she told me she doesn't care what it looks like under a microscope and i'm sure she wants to impress! This is her first real diamond, she is only 23 and doesn't know the difference in the 4 C's. I've researched this to death! Thanks in advance for all the help.

Hi.... that's a beautiful look. Here's Leon Mege's take:

what's your budget? From what I understand, buying pears can be tricky because of wanting to avoid the bowtie. You really have to see it person or have a jeweler whose eye you trust. Since I live in Europe, I often rely on the trusted judgment of a couple of vendors. I highly reccomend Leon Mege, who will get the stones and they're proportions perfect. His diamond guy is Perry and you could just give him a call and get an idea of prices. (They are EXTREMELY competitive with prices... they had the lowest price out there for my E VS2 cushion for my ering and currently I'm getting a green diamond ring made, and their quote for my center stone was between 2K - 5K lower than comparable stones.)

Another vendor whose can help is Jon at GOG. He bends over backwards to help and has quite a well deserved following on PS. I don't think he has a lot of pears on the site right now but he could probably source you something fantastic.

good luck!

Missdebby is right....you cant buy a pear without pictures and a trusted vendor. There is no telling what you will
end up with. Have you looked at James Allen? They have pictures and can provide you with aset images of the
stone. I'll take a look and see what they have.

Yeah, JA is also very good because they will pull up to 3 stones for you and have their gemologist look it over. Their prices are incredible, esp with the PS discount... plus they have a great selection of well priced settings. That's definitely and option to look at along with the others.

Also, another great thing you can do is once you start getting photos and GIA info from a couple of vendors in, you can post it here and get some feedback. And that would be my suggestion ,too. Have at least a couple of different vendors look for you... no need to back yourself into a corner with the selection by just looking at the inventory of 1 place. Also, it's important for you to look at return policies and upgrade policies.

You would need to request an asset image of any of the stones you are interested in. I think they allow up to 3 asset images.
Post assets here...along with any other pics you get. Its not easy to pick pears and I didnt see a whole lot of nice ones that
jumped out at me. These are a few that I thought might be worth a further look.

One of my favorites...need to check if eye-clean
